2012 seemed to fly by, yet January feels so very long ago.

All in all, 2012 was a pretty good year.

I ran 9 half marathons.  The running joke was that since I ran 3 in 2010 and 6 in 2011, I clearly had to run 9 in 2012.  No, I am not running 12 in 2013.  The streak is over.

I also ran 3 10 milers, 2 8ks, 2 10ks, 4 5ks, 2 5 milers, and a 15k for a total of 22 races.  That’s a lot of miles raced.  And I made it through the year uninjured too!

I set new PRs in the 8k, the 15k, and the half marathon distance (though this was the first time I ran a 15k, so that was pretty much a guarantee).

I trained for a marathon and completed a number of training runs at brand new distances.

In non-running news, I traveled a lot this year.  I attended the weddings of five friends.  I went to Ireland for a little over a week.  I spent way too many, yet not enough days in Disney World.  And I had a blast doing it all.

I went on a few very bad first dates that I will not detail here, but someday I should write a book.

Most notably, I picked up my blog again after months of hiatus.  Considering I started this online writing thing back in 1999 or 2000, I figured it was time to get back to it.

2012 was a pretty fun year.  Here’s hoping for an even better 2013!

  1. That is such an impressive running year! 22 races — and 9 of them half-marathons! Absolutely awesome!

I was certainly not anywhere close. Eight races (one 3 mile, four 5Ks, two 4-milers, one 10K). I was just looking back at some old running logs. 1987 I did 20 races, mostly 5Ks but including two 8Ks, a 5-miler, two 10Ks, one 15K, and one 20K. I was 44 back then.

My doctor removed the stitches from my foot this week and I am getting around without crutches now, although I still have to wear a moonboot until my Jan 9th appointment. I am hoping then to be able get out of the moonboot and get approval to start walking and maybe to start jogging a couple of weeks later. I will move into a new age group this coming spring and (as silly as it may sound) I am really getting psyched about that.

  2. A new age group is always fun, Jim! New competition!

Best of luck with the foot. Hope you get rid of the boot quickly!
