Even more quality over quantity

I am currently working on my 2016 Race Schedule, and it looks like I will be doing very few triathlons this year.  Maybe only three.  Distance wise, however, I’ll be covering many more miles during those races, so it all evens out.

A few years back, I decided that for road races, I was going to aim for quality over quantity.  I had been doing a lot of half marathons, and because I was racing so much, I didn’t feel like I was ever really properly trained for them.  Oh sure, I had the miles in and would finish without trouble, but I wasn’t exactly seeing improvement.

While I know plenty of people who go for the quantity of races and just try to have fun while running, I decided it was time for something different.

On the advice of my coach, I’ll be doing the same for triathlons as well.  It’s a bit of an emotional decision, since it means I won’t be racing IronGirl Columbia this year, but I have a goal race in mind and I want to succeed.  That means I need to work on very focused training.  On the up side, it means I will most certainly be volunteering at IronGirl Columbia, which is probably even more fun.  (And I won’t have to run Gatorade Hill.)

It feels strange to be stepping back so significantly, and I have to admit, I’m more than a little terrified of the training plan coming my way.  But I think it will be worth it.
