{"id":1036,"date":"2012-12-06T08:00:12","date_gmt":"2012-12-06T13:00:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/?p=1036"},"modified":"2012-12-04T11:32:05","modified_gmt":"2012-12-04T16:32:05","slug":"do-i-need-a-bad-run","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/2012\/12\/06\/do-i-need-a-bad-run\/","title":{"rendered":"Do I Need a Bad Run?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the sayings about marathon training is that you will have a bad run in there.\u00a0 One of your long runs will go terribly and it will make you doubt that you can do it.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not sure I&#8217;ve had a truly bad run yet, and it scares me.\u00a0 Does that mean it&#8217;s still ahead of me?\u00a0 I have an 18 miler and a 20 miler left.\u00a0 Is one of them going to be awful and painful?\u00a0 And if they both go well, will the marathon be awful?<\/p>\n<p>Honestly, I&#8217;m pretty convinced that 26.2 miles is gonna hurt.\u00a0 No way around that one.\u00a0 6-7 hours of running?\u00a0 Yeah, it won&#8217;t be pretty.<\/p>\n<p>But so far, my training has been going surprisingly well.\u00a0 Last weekend&#8217;s 14 miler didn&#8217;t feel great but I didn&#8217;t prepare properly.\u00a0 Since it was a stepback week for me, in my brain, this was a short run.\u00a0 But 14 miles isn&#8217;t a short run for my body.\u00a0 Not at all.\u00a0 Until I started training for this marathon, I had never run a training run longer than 10 miles, and only hit 13 miles when I raced.\u00a0 So instead of preparing properly and making sure that my meals the day before were good fuel, I just went about life not thinking about the run the next day.\u00a0 I was properly hydrated, but that&#8217;s about it.<\/p>\n<p>And the run went about as well as expected.\u00a0 Time wise, it was fine.\u00a0 I was right on pace.\u00a0 But it just felt rough.\u00a0 And I think it was a good lesson.\u00a0 I have to remember to prepare the day before the marathon.\u00a0 That&#8217;s going to be hard since I will be at Walt Disney World.\u00a0 My plan for the day is to get up early and go cheer on the half marathoners (including my parents, my sister, many friends and even my dentist!) and then go to breakfast with friends.\u00a0 After that, I plan to be lazy.\u00a0 Much sitting around, no park going at all.\u00a0 Lots of hydrating and eating good food and getting ready for the next day.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m still struggling to believe that this is real.\u00a0 Mentally, I&#8217;m not ready for the race.\u00a0 I can&#8217;t visualize it yet.\u00a0 Soon enough though.\u00a0 Soon enough.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of the sayings about marathon training is that you will have a bad run in there.\u00a0 One of your long runs will go terribly and it will make you doubt that you can do it.
