{"id":1068,"date":"2012-12-10T12:00:07","date_gmt":"2012-12-10T17:00:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/?p=1068"},"modified":"2012-12-10T08:22:38","modified_gmt":"2012-12-10T13:22:38","slug":"18-miles-done","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/2012\/12\/10\/18-miles-done\/","title":{"rendered":"18 Miles DONE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Because this is Holidailies time, the plan is to post every day in December.\u00a0 I missed yesterday, so this is the topic that I wanted to write on.\u00a0 It still counts!<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, I ran my 18 miler.\u00a0 One more long run left before the marathon (20 on December 21).\u00a0 I&#8217;m a very lucky girl &#8211; I had friends willing to run it with me.<\/p>\n<p>The first 9ish miles were with <a href=\"http:\/\/triandtrue.wordpress.com\">Kim<\/a> during the Annapolis Striders&#8217; Anniversary Run 15K.\u00a0 This was the last run in the Champs Series.\u00a0 I had missed too many races to be eligible for an award and I&#8217;m too slow to be eligible for an award, so we just went out to have a good time.\u00a0 Kim&#8217;s coming back from an injury and this was her make it or break it run &#8211; if it went well, she was going to run the marathon.\u00a0 If not, she was out.<\/p>\n<p>Thankfully, she will be running a marathon!<\/p>\n<p>The race itself was okay.\u00a0 Pretty course through Quiet Waters park.\u00a0 I have to admit though, it was emotionally hard running the Champs Series races this year.\u00a0 Usually, Striders races are very slow runner friendly, and I don&#8217;t want to say that this race was unfriendly to slow runners, but we slow runners certainly weren&#8217;t feeling the love.\u00a0 By the time we ran through the second loop, the volunteers at one of the road crossings were gone, and that particular crossing was the one that all the fast runners were driving down to get out of the park, having finished their race.\u00a0 Thankfully, most runners are kind and won&#8217;t plow down other runners, but that&#8217;s not a guarantee.\u00a0\u00a0 When we reached the finish, there were two very enthusiastic volunteers there, but according to Kim&#8217;s husband, some of the finish line had already been disassembled.\u00a0 There were two other volunteers handing out water and pointing us to food, but warning us it might be gone.\u00a0 They were also awesome.\u00a0 We didn&#8217;t even venture in for food.<\/p>\n<p>Now, we weren&#8217;t fast. We were slower than normal because I think we both wanted to be very careful on Kim&#8217;s injury and because I was headed to another 9 miles afterward.\u00a0 But we weren&#8217;t last.\u00a0 We were in the bottom 10, but we weren&#8217;t last.\u00a0 There were people slogging along behind us.\u00a0 And I have to admit, it hurt a bit to feel like we finished strong and to then feel like we were failures for being so slow.\u00a0 Nothing I can do about it.<\/p>\n<p>Then I met up with <a href=\"http:\/\/journeyto26pointtwo.blogspot.com\/\">Jen <\/a>who was willing to drag me through Annapolis for the second 9 miles.\u00a0 It was a fun run in areas that I haven&#8217;t seen before.\u00a0 I loved running the Naval Academy.\u00a0 Such a great place to run.\u00a0 Not the prettiest, given the misty weather, but it was still a lot of fun.\u00a0 And then we ate pancakes.\u00a0 Best pancakes ever.\u00a0 They always taste so much better when you&#8217;re covered in sweat.<\/p>\n<p>All in all, I ran just about 18.5 miles yesterday, at an average pace of 14:20.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll take it.\u00a0 One more long run.\u00a0 I can do this.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Because this is Holidailies time, the plan is to post every day in December.\u00a0 I missed yesterday, so this is the topic that I wanted to write on.\u00a0 It still counts!
