{"id":1650,"date":"2013-04-12T08:00:17","date_gmt":"2013-04-12T12:00:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/?p=1650"},"modified":"2015-01-03T17:04:22","modified_gmt":"2015-01-03T22:04:22","slug":"slow-like-turtle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/2013\/04\/12\/slow-like-turtle\/","title":{"rendered":"Slow Like Turtle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/small_3429922728.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1661\" alt=\"small_3429922728\" src=\"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/small_3429922728.jpg\" width=\"240\" height=\"160\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not a fast runner.\u00a0 This is not news to anyone.<\/p>\n<p>But I&#8217;m slowly realizing that my sprint triathlons are going to be a slog.<\/p>\n<p>I joke that I have no fast-twitch muscles.\u00a0 In all seriousness though, I just can&#8217;t sprint.\u00a0 I can&#8217;t push my body that hard due to my <a href=\"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/2012\/08\/02\/what-is-wrong-with-you\/\">heart rate<\/a> issues.\u00a0 During the indoor tri, I realized this also applied to swimming (even more so, since when my HR skyrockets, I get out of breath, which doesn&#8217;t work well in the water) and it clearly applies to cycling.<\/p>\n<p>Now, it&#8217;s not as if I expected to win any awards in these upcoming races.\u00a0 I just want to perform well and feel like I finished strong.<\/p>\n<p>But it&#8217;s tough knowing just how slow it&#8217;s going to feel.\u00a0 I will have to force myself to stay slow and not let the adrenaline get to me.<\/p>\n<p>I remind myself that I&#8217;m doing something good for others in doing these triathlons, and I&#8217;ve met a ton of awesome people. I&#8217;m also doing something great for my body, which is hugely important.\u00a0 And for the most part, I enjoy the training.\u00a0 But short races aren&#8217;t my thing and I don&#8217;t see myself ever doing a half-ironman distance (an Ironman is just laughable).\u00a0 Maybe an Olympic distance someday, if I find I like the sport.\u00a0 After all, I don&#8217;t like 5Ks much to begin with, so it would make sense that I would enjoy the longer distance.\u00a0 I&#8217;m built for endurance, not for speed.<\/p>\n<p>So I&#8217;m just trying to stay positive.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not giving up, that&#8217;s for sure.\u00a0 This is way too much fun to give up.\u00a0 But it&#8217;s requiring some mental adjustments I wasn&#8217;t expecting to have to make.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nphoto credit: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/murilocardoso\/3429922728\/\">murilocardoso<\/a> via <a href=\"http:\/\/photopin.com\">photopin<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/creativecommons.org\/licenses\/by-nc-sa\/2.0\/\">cc<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m not a fast runner.\u00a0 This is not news to anyone.
