{"id":1757,"date":"2013-04-26T08:00:37","date_gmt":"2013-04-26T12:00:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/?p=1757"},"modified":"2013-04-23T09:41:25","modified_gmt":"2013-04-23T13:41:25","slug":"early-morning-swim","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/2013\/04\/26\/early-morning-swim\/","title":{"rendered":"Early Morning Swim"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/medium_703041790.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1758\" alt=\"medium_703041790\" src=\"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/medium_703041790.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/medium_703041790.jpg 500w, http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/medium_703041790-300x199.jpg 300w, http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/medium_703041790-450x300.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I get to the pool relatively early on Tuesday mornings.\u00a0 The local youth swim teams have a bunch of lanes reserved from 4:30-6:15 am, but open swim starts at 6, and the kids are typically out of the pool and into the locker rooms by that point.<\/p>\n<p>Typically, I get to the pool around 6 or so, and am in the pool before 6:15.\u00a0 This week, I wanted to try to get in some extra distance before heading to work, so I did my best to get there early.\u00a0 When I walked onto the pool deck, I wished I had brought my camera.<\/p>\n<p>The pool has two sets of lanes &#8211; the shallow end to the left and the deep end to the right.\u00a0 The deep lanes are often used by water walkers, so I swim on the shallow end.\u00a0 When I walked in, there were still a few swim team members in the deep lanes, and on the end of the shallow lanes sat adult swimmers, patiently waiting for the signal to swim.\u00a0 It was a very neat effect.<\/p>\n<p>At first, I couldn&#8217;t figure out what they were waiting for.\u00a0 I wondered what the signal was that swim officially started.\u00a0 It didn&#8217;t take long to figure it out.\u00a0 There was no lifeguard on duty.\u00a0 Clearly, that&#8217;s the most important thing at the pool.\u00a0 I hope to never see anyone need their services, but they must be there.<\/p>\n<p>So I said good morning to my normal lane partner (as per usual, he didn&#8217;t acknowledge my presence, but one day you will, grumpy old man) and sat down to wait.\u00a0 I still didn&#8217;t know what the signal was after all.<\/p>\n<p>Then I saw it.\u00a0 The moment the lifeguard put one foot onto his stand, people leapt into the pool.\u00a0 My break was over.\u00a0 Time to swim.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nphoto credit: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/jdlasica\/703041790\/\">jdlasica<\/a> via <a href=\"http:\/\/photopin.com\">photopin<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/creativecommons.org\/licenses\/by-nc\/2.0\/\">cc<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I get to the pool relatively early on Tuesday mornings.\u00a0 The local youth swim teams have a bunch of lanes reserved from 4:30-6:15 am, but open swim starts at 6, and the kids are typically out of the pool and into the locker rooms by that point.
