{"id":2160,"date":"2013-08-07T08:00:01","date_gmt":"2013-08-07T12:00:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/?p=2160"},"modified":"2013-08-06T10:55:12","modified_gmt":"2013-08-06T14:55:12","slug":"treadmill-mindblocks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/2013\/08\/07\/treadmill-mindblocks\/","title":{"rendered":"Treadmill Mindblocks"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_2161\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2161\" style=\"width: 240px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/small_2155573557.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2161 \" alt=\"photo credit: lars hammar via photopin cc\" src=\"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/small_2155573557.jpg\" width=\"240\" height=\"167\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2161\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><center>photo credit: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/7603557@N08\/2155573557\/\">lars hammar<\/a> via <a href=\"http:\/\/photopin.com\">photopin<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/creativecommons.org\/licenses\/by-nc-sa\/2.0\/\">cc<\/a><\/center><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Does treadmill training fill you with fear?\u00a0 Do you wonder how people can spend hours on a treadmill at a time?<\/p>\n<p>While I can&#8217;t imagine doing all of my race training on a treadmill, I do kind of love it for a number of reasons.<\/p>\n<p>First off, climate control.\u00a0 I love that it doesn&#8217;t matter what the weather is, I can always run on my treadmill.\u00a0 Too hot?\u00a0 Treadmill.\u00a0 Too cold?\u00a0 Treadmill (though it&#8217;s usually not that cold in the DC area).\u00a0 Rain?\u00a0 Snow?\u00a0 Ice?\u00a0 Hurricane?\u00a0 Treadmill.<\/p>\n<p>For me, it&#8217;s usually not the weather that keeps me on the treadmill, it&#8217;s safety.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t like running alone in the evenings, even when it&#8217;s light out.\u00a0 Weekends are different because I live along a very well-used trail, but during the week, I just feel better doing my long runs inside.\u00a0 Every so often, I will venture out, but especially as the days get shorter, I stay inside.<\/p>\n<p>But how do I get through the boredom?<\/p>\n<p>TELEVISION.<\/p>\n<p>I only have one TV in my house and it&#8217;s in the basement, which is sort of my family room area and also my workout area.\u00a0 (Basement is lovely and completely finished, so it&#8217;s not like I&#8217;m going down to a cement box all the time.)\u00a0 I just don&#8217;t have a ton of time to sit and watch tv with work and all my training.\u00a0 Having the TV &#8220;less accessible&#8221; means I&#8217;m that much less likely to just sit and watch for hours on end.<\/p>\n<p>That said, it means I miss a lot of things I really enjoy.\u00a0 So that&#8217;s where treadmill (and bike trainer) time comes in.\u00a0 If I know I have a big workout coming, I will save a certain show that I&#8217;m looking forward to and only watch it on the treadmill.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a great incentive for me to get in the workout.<\/p>\n<p>Clearly, this won&#8217;t work for everyone.\u00a0 But my tip is to incentivize yourself!\u00a0 Do what it takes to get you on that treadmill and get you going.\u00a0 Or suck it up and go outside, regardless of the weather.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Does treadmill training fill you with fear?\u00a0 Do you wonder how people can spend hours on a treadmill at a time?
