So… there’s a blizzard coming. \u00a0And because I will be stuck in my house for the foreseeable future, I thought I would try liveblogging the storm. \u00a0I’m not sure anyone will find this interesting except my mom, but I thought it might be a fun record to have.<\/p>\n

Besides, it’s my blog. \u00a0I can do what I want. \u00a0So here we go.<\/p>\n

Friday<\/h1>\n

7:00am<\/strong> – My boss is amazing and told us yesterday that we could telework today. \u00a0So I just got out of bed. \u00a0I’m exasperated, but not surprised that the federal government opted to open today. \u00a0Basically, the offices are open and employees can telework (if eligible), take a vacation day, or they can go in and then leave 4 hours early, but no later than noon. \u00a0They’re calling this a staggered departure to prevent everyone from being on the road at once, but I can think of one person in my office who might<\/em>\u00a0leave before 4 pm on a normal day. \u00a0The snow is supposed to start between 12 and 2. \u00a0 This is a terrible idea.<\/p>\n

The sunrise was really pretty today. The calm before the storm? Only time will tell.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

8:00am<\/strong> – This quote from the local forecasters<\/a> is interesting:<\/p>\n

The way in which the system is presently developing also argues for the unbelievably-high totals to occur somewhere <\/em>in this event. That somewhere could be here or very close by.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Yay snow?<\/p>\n

8:50am<\/strong> – Pippin is hunkered down, ready for the snow. \u00a0Yes, I put a blanket in front of the heating vent for him. \u00a0Don’t judge me.<\/p>\n

9:40am<\/strong> – Kim<\/a> begins bragging about how she now lives in Florida.<\/p>\n

10:30am<\/strong> – I have now received robocalls from both the power company and my insurance company offering tips on how to stay safe. \u00a0I interpret the one from the insurance company as “Don’t burn down your house, fool. \u00a0We don’t want to pay for it.”<\/p>\n

11:00am<\/strong> – I just realized that I live on the border between the 16-24″ range and the 18-30″ range. \u00a0I’m short! \u00a030 inches of snow is almost half my height!<\/p>\n

11:45am<\/strong> – The storm is officially named “Snowzilla.” \u00a0Apparently, the winning name was really “Make Winter Great Again,” but it’s just not as catchy. \u00a0Oh,\u00a0DC humor.<\/p>\n

12:50pm<\/strong> – IT BEGINS.<\/p>\n

1:25pm<\/strong> – The flakes are small, but steady.<\/p>\n

2:35pm<\/strong> – The snow has picked up. \u00a0It’s still relatively light and really pretty. \u00a0But this is only the beginning. \u00a0It’s sticking to the roads pretty significantly.<\/p>\n

2:45pm<\/strong> – The flakes are much more significant now, but it’s still not very windy. \u00a0Yet.<\/p>\n

That long metal thing is the stand for my hammock. Which I clearly do not need right now.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

3:20pm<\/strong> – Total crafts completed: 1<\/p>\n

4:30pm<\/strong> – The snow falling outside is so peaceful and beautiful. Sadly, I don’t think a blizzard is going to be very peaceful. \u00a0But for now, it’s pretty gorgeous.<\/p>\n

5:20pm<\/strong> – First round of snow shoveling complete. \u00a02 inches so far, according to my trusty yardstick. \u00a0Cleared off my sidewalks and my car. \u00a0By the time I finished the car, the sidewalk had a nice coating of white again.<\/p>\n

6:30pm<\/strong> – It would be wrong to put vodka into my smoothie, right? \u00a0Eh, who cares.<\/p>\n

7:45pm\u00a0<\/strong>– Just finished round two of shoveling. \u00a0My yardstick indicates that we’ve got somewhere between 3.5 and 4 inches. \u00a0I think we’re supposed to wake up to a lot of snow in the morning.<\/p>\n

9:30pm<\/strong> – It is dark and windy outside. \u00a0Snow is clearly coming down pretty fast. \u00a0And taking pictures through windows at night is hard.<\/p>\n
