{"id":4394,"date":"2016-04-18T09:00:28","date_gmt":"2016-04-18T13:00:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/?p=4394"},"modified":"2016-04-17T17:42:54","modified_gmt":"2016-04-17T21:42:54","slug":"making-progress-bike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/2016\/04\/18\/making-progress-bike\/","title":{"rendered":"Making progress on my bike"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This weekend, I returned to the group rides out at Princeton Sports. \u00a0This week, there were three distance options, which was nice. \u00a0One fast 25 mile ride of the Columbia Tri course, one 17 mile ride of the old Iron Girl Course, and one 14ish mile ride cutting off the worst part of the Iron Girl course.<\/p>\n<p>I went for option B. \u00a0I knew I couldn&#8217;t keep up with the fast group, but I wanted the extra hills, so I went for the course I knew. \u00a0This was the first time I had really ridden my TT bike on an outdoor ride (the slow loops a few weeks back were a good trial, but not a real ride). \u00a0I was a little bit nervous about the whole thing but it&#8217;s a well supported ride, so I knew I would be fine. \u00a0I just didn&#8217;t want to fall!<\/p>\n<p>It was a smaller group out for this ride, and I found myself somewhere mid-pack. \u00a0The TT bike is definitely twitchy and I&#8217;ll have to really work on staying steady. \u00a0Core work will definitely help,\u00a0as will practice.<\/p>\n<p>I definitely felt like my riding was slower than normal. \u00a0Climbing seemed harder than I remembered. \u00a0And I wanted to have a faster overall pace. \u00a0Of course, the downhills felt pretty speedy in aero. \u00a0And scary. \u00a0But I really thought my finish time was going to be significantly slower than what I was doing last year.<\/p>\n<p>Turns out my final time was two minutes faster than when I was riding this course last May. \u00a0Two minutes isn&#8217;t a lot, and the downhills probably helped. \u00a0But then I looked at my Strava data.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Screen-Shot-2016-04-17-at-4.42.01-PM.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-4395\" src=\"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Screen-Shot-2016-04-17-at-4.42.01-PM-300x85.png\" alt=\"Screen Shot 2016-04-17 at 4.42.01 PM\" width=\"300\" height=\"85\" srcset=\"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Screen-Shot-2016-04-17-at-4.42.01-PM-300x85.png 300w, http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Screen-Shot-2016-04-17-at-4.42.01-PM.png 448w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>One great thing about Strava is that it gives you the time for your full distance as well as how you do on various segments that people have setup on the course. \u00a0(You can also compare to how other people do on certain segments, but I am so slow I don&#8217;t bother with those.) \u00a0And I hit a PR on a pretty significant climb near the end of the ride. \u00a0Now, I&#8217;ve only been using Strava since last year, so it&#8217;s possible that I have done it faster at some point, but I think the odds are not good, since I&#8217;m definitely a stronger cyclist than I was two years ago.<\/p>\n<p>I still have a long way to go before my big race in September, but this is a good start. \u00a0Must keep riding those killer hills.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This weekend, I returned to the group rides out at Princeton Sports. \u00a0This week, there were three distance options, which was nice. \u00a0One fast 25 mile ride of the Columbia Tri course, one 17 mile ride of the old Iron Girl Course, and one 14ish mile ride cutting off the worst part of the Iron [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_active":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_note":"","_monsterinsights_sitenote_category":0,"jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false,"footnotes":"","jetpack_publicize_message":"","jetpack_is_tweetstorm":false,"jetpack_publicize_feature_enabled":true,"jetpack_social_post_already_shared":false,"jetpack_social_options":{"image_generator_settings":{"template":"highway","enabled":false}}},"categories":[116],"tags":[],"jetpack_publicize_connections":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v20.7 -
