{"id":4724,"date":"2016-10-13T09:02:45","date_gmt":"2016-10-13T13:02:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/?p=4724"},"modified":"2016-10-13T09:02:45","modified_gmt":"2016-10-13T13:02:45","slug":"motivation-or-why-i-race","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/2016\/10\/13\/motivation-or-why-i-race\/","title":{"rendered":"Motivation, or Why I Race"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_4725\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4725\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/lazy_1476363263.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4725\" src=\"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/lazy_1476363263-300x211.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"211\" srcset=\"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/lazy_1476363263-300x211.jpg 300w, http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/lazy_1476363263.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4725\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pixabay.com\/users\/PublicDomainPictures\/\">PublicDomainPictures<\/a> \/ Pixabay<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>While my race season certainly isn&#8217;t over for the year (I still have Space Coast in November), my triathlon season certainly is. \u00a0And already, I&#8217;m feeling my motivation wane.<\/p>\n<p>This is a big part of why I race. \u00a0Don&#8217;t get me wrong &#8211; I love racing. \u00a0I love the sense of accomplishment. \u00a0Augusta 70.3 was so incredibly hard and yet so incredibly worth it for me. \u00a0I&#8217;m proud of what I accomplished and I&#8217;m looking forward to improving on that accomplishment in the year to come.<\/p>\n<p>But really, I schedule races throughout the year so that I have something I&#8217;m training for. \u00a0If I don&#8217;t have a goal on the schedule, something I&#8217;m determined to succeed at (or at least not fail at), I&#8217;m hard pressed for motivation.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, I know exercise is good for me. \u00a0Yes, I know it will help me lose the weight I&#8217;m perpetually trying to drop. \u00a0But some days, I just don&#8217;t want to. \u00a0Not for any particular reason, just because I&#8217;m feeling lazy. \u00a0And if I don&#8217;t have a race I&#8217;m working towards, I have that much less incentive to actually do the workout.<\/p>\n<p>Over the summer, I stuck hard to my training schedule and it paid off. \u00a0I did miss workouts when I wasn&#8217;t feeling well, but those were few and far between, and they were when skipping the workout was the smartest thing to do. \u00a0But now, my next triathlon is months and months away. \u00a0Do I really need to go to the pool? \u00a0No. \u00a0But I should go anyway. \u00a0It&#8217;s good for me and I actually enjoy it once I&#8217;m there.<\/p>\n<p>So this is a big part of why I race. \u00a0I need the added motivation. \u00a0I wish I could be one of those people who exercise every day because they love how it makes them feel. \u00a0Nope. \u00a0I just don&#8217;t want to embarrass myself at my next race.<\/p>\n<p>Hey, whatever works.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>While my race season certainly isn&#8217;t over for the year (I still have Space Coast in November), my triathlon season certainly is. \u00a0And already, I&#8217;m feeling my motivation wane.
