{"id":4938,"date":"2017-02-17T09:00:55","date_gmt":"2017-02-17T14:00:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/?p=4938"},"modified":"2017-02-16T11:47:11","modified_gmt":"2017-02-16T16:47:11","slug":"so-whats-next-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/2017\/02\/17\/so-whats-next-2\/","title":{"rendered":"So What&#8217;s Next?"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_4939\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4939\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/steps_1487263313.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4939\" src=\"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/steps_1487263313-300x198.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"198\" srcset=\"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/steps_1487263313-300x198.jpg 300w, http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/steps_1487263313.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4939\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pixabay.com\/users\/congerdesign\/\">congerdesign<\/a> \/ Pixabay<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>With Donna over, my 2017 race season has officially started. \u00a0I have at least one race each month through November. \u00a0I guess December and January are my &#8220;off-season.&#8221; \u00a0We&#8217;ll use that as the excuse for the weight I gained over the holidays.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m still trying to figure out my focus for the year. \u00a0My first triathlon of the year isn&#8217;t until May, but I&#8217;ve been swimming, biking, and running through the non-triathlon season because a) I don&#8217;t want to lose fitness and b) I&#8217;ve discovered that I hate running four or more days a week. \u00a0I&#8217;ve really been focusing on increasing my bike fitness while simply maintaining on my swim and my run.<\/p>\n<p>But as you might expect, the added bike focus has also led to some improvements in my run. \u00a0For both Space Coast and Donna, I didn&#8217;t feel incredibly well trained. \u00a0I was running about twice a week, one run in around 4-5 miles and the other a long run, increasing up to 11 or 12 miles. \u00a0The point of the training was really just to get me through the race comfortably, because I was just running for fun, not to try to set a new PR.<\/p>\n<p>And yet, both races went really well. \u00a0My half marathon PR is 2:48:33, set at Shamrock in 2012. \u00a0 At Space Coast and Donna, I ran a 2:55:14 and a 2:56:56. \u00a0Anyone who has worked to cut time from their races can look at those times and say &#8220;Yeah, that&#8217;s really far off of your PR.&#8221; \u00a0And in many ways, that&#8217;s true. \u00a0But in 2012, I was run focused. \u00a0Shamrock, which was in March, was my 4th half of the year. \u00a0I was running\u00a0<em>a lot<\/em>. \u00a0I was also pushing for a PR. \u00a0At Donna, I stopped for a bathroom break, chatted with some friends, and did a shot of Fireball. \u00a0Clearly not a PR race.<\/p>\n<p>I guess what I&#8217;m saying is that I&#8217;m really pleased with these race times. \u00a0I&#8217;m doing something right in my training.<\/p>\n<p>But triathlon season is looming, so I&#8217;m going to have to start putting even more focus on my biking and swimming. \u00a0This year, I&#8217;m stepping back on the distance and focusing only on the Olympic\/International distance. \u00a0I loved my 70.3 last year, but I felt like all I ever did was train. \u00a0This year, I want to have more time to volunteer at races and cheer on friends and strangers. \u00a0I also would like to get more sleep. \u00a0And you know, maybe have some non-training fun in there too.<\/p>\n<p>At some point, I&#8217;ll probably push to improve my half marathon PR. \u00a0Just not this year. \u00a0This year is for fun. \u00a0And maybe a triathlon PR.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With Donna over, my 2017 race season has officially started. \u00a0I have at least one race each month through November. \u00a0I guess December and January are my &#8220;off-season.&#8221; \u00a0We&#8217;ll use that as the excuse for the weight I gained over the holidays.
