Last weekend while following all of the coverage of IRONMAN World Championships, commonly referred to as Kona, I couldn\u2019t help but think \u201cI want to be there.\u201d<\/p>\n

(Okay, yes, I started this post last week and then got mired down in work and extra hours and then got a cold, so I didn’t get it done.)<\/p>\n

Watching the coverage of all of those amazing athletes in that gorgeous setting, I couldn’t help but dream of someday being among them.\u00a0 No not as an athlete.\u00a0 That’s just laughable.\u00a0 I am and remain a retired marathoner.\u00a0 That means no full distance triathlons for me.\u00a0 And even if it did, I would have to get SO MUCH FASTER to even think about qualifying for Kona.\u00a0 Ask me again when I’m in my 80’s and maybe I’ll consider it.<\/p>\n

No, I want to get to Kona as cheer squad.\u00a0 I mean, come on, how amazing would that be?<\/p>\n

I love cheering at races.\u00a0 It’s one of my favorite things.\u00a0 I was so bummed to not be cheering at MCM this weekend, but my cold kept me inside and on the couch.\u00a0 Not that my cheering would have been all that great, given the complete laryngitis.\u00a0 And as an athlete, I always get so much out of the people who are cheering.\u00a0 It’s such a huge boost when you’re struggling or when you’re having a great race.\u00a0 It’s just an awesome feeling to have people look at you and say “You!\u00a0 You are doing great!”<\/p>\n

Kona is the world championship for triathlon, but it might as well also be the world championships for race cheering too, given how many people make it a goal to get there.\u00a0 Let’s be honest, Hawai’i isn’t exactly a terrible place to have to go.\u00a0 And to get to see the top racers in the world while you’re there?\u00a0 So amazing.<\/p>\n

So there’s my newest addition to my bucket list.\u00a0 Cheering at Kona.\u00a0 Who wants to go along?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
