{"id":5671,"date":"2017-10-26T09:00:58","date_gmt":"2017-10-26T13:00:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/?p=5671"},"modified":"2017-10-26T08:29:15","modified_gmt":"2017-10-26T12:29:15","slug":"winter-season-plans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/2017\/10\/26\/winter-season-plans\/","title":{"rendered":"Winter Season Plans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5672 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/img_0263-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/img_0263-300x300.jpg 300w, http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/img_0263-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/img_0263.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>So I&#8217;ve been feeling pretty darn sloth-like over the past few weeks.\u00a0 Even though I ran a race not that long ago.\u00a0 Basically, it feels like life and work and illnesses have thrown me for a loop and my training plan has gone off the rails.<\/p>\n<p>In all honesty, it&#8217;s not been that bad, and if it&#8217;s going to happen, this is a fine time for it.\u00a0 But I&#8217;m definitely eager to get back to proper training and scheduling.<\/p>\n<p>One thing I&#8217;ve learned from all of this is that when I&#8217;m given a chance to really step back, I have a tendency to take it too far.\u00a0 When I know I don&#8217;t have to prioritize my workouts or my diet, well, things go a little crazy.\u00a0 But rather than just go whole hog back into things, I&#8217;m trying to ease back in.\u00a0 For example, I&#8217;m mostly recovered from my cold.\u00a0 I ran 4 miles on Tuesday night.\u00a0 My schedule called for 5 last night.\u00a0 However, since I was on my feet all day at work and was pretty exhausted when I came home, I opted to take a rest day and hit tonight&#8217;s workout hard.\u00a0 Normally, I would have pushed that 5, but since I have the time and space in my schedule, I decided to step back.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m also trying to revamp my diet.\u00a0 I let things go a little crazy for a while there, and while I&#8217;m still down from my high weight, I had gained back about 5 pounds, and I didn&#8217;t like the direction I was going.\u00a0 I tried Weight Watchers for a while in solidarity with my coworkers and I liked it, but all of a sudden, I stalled out.\u00a0 I put my food into My Fitness Pal and realized why.\u00a0 I had fallen into the trap of not getting enough calories to fuel my day.\u00a0 Why?\u00a0 Because I can&#8217;t turn down a piece of good chocolate, and that was killing my points.\u00a0 Now, I&#8217;m not knocking WW.\u00a0 It worked really well for me and helped me get back on track.\u00a0 It made me realize how important it is for me to track my food.\u00a0 And it&#8217;s made the transition back to MFP a lot easier.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m approaching MFP differently this go around.\u00a0 I&#8217;m going to focus on really hitting my macros, rather than just calories.\u00a0 Let me tell you, getting enough protein is hard!\u00a0 I&#8217;m constantly low.\u00a0 Right now, I&#8217;m far from perfect, and my general goal is &#8220;around 1600 calories, not over on carbs, eat more protein.&#8221;\u00a0 I&#8217;m getting there, and I&#8217;m okay with being far from perfect.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not tracking exercise on MFP.\u00a0 No more of this &#8220;I worked out so I get to eat more.&#8221;\u00a0 Yes, on long run or long bike days, I will increase my intake, but on a day where I just have an hour workout?\u00a0 1600 is more than fine.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not a tall human, and I have a desk job.\u00a0 And you know what?\u00a0 When you focus on protein, watching your sugars, and lowering carb intake?\u00a0 1600 feels like A LOT of food.<\/p>\n<p>So for the winter season, I&#8217;m just going to try to get myself back on track, race some half marathons, have fun, and get myself prepped for 70.3 training.\u00a0 Hooray?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So I&#8217;ve been feeling pretty darn sloth-like over the past few weeks.\u00a0 Even though I ran a race not that long ago.\u00a0 Basically, it feels like life and work and illnesses have thrown me for a loop and my training plan has gone off the rails.
