{"id":59,"date":"2008-12-09T06:00:56","date_gmt":"2008-12-09T10:00:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/?p=59"},"modified":"2008-12-08T16:38:20","modified_gmt":"2008-12-08T20:38:20","slug":"santa-baby","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/2008\/12\/09\/santa-baby\/","title":{"rendered":"Santa baby&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.holidailies.org\">Holidailies<\/a> Prompt:\u00a0 Letter to Santa &#8230; or any other holiday icon you like.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I thought about writing a traditional letter to Santa this year.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Dear Santa,<\/p>\n<p>I have been a moderately good girl this year, though please do not do any sort of checking up on that assertion.\u00a0 For Christmas, I would like a million dollars and world peace.\u00a0 Any special snacks I should leave for the reindeer?\u00a0 Thanks.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>But instead I wanted to write about something sad I read about this year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mall Santas are used to hearing children asking for &#8220;toys and presents and wonderful things&#8221; (name that quote) and occasionally, they hear the story of the kid who just really wants a new winter coat because his is small or worn.\u00a0<br \/>\nI can\u2019t even imagine what it must be like to hear that all a child wants is a new coat or new sheets for their bed.\u00a0 These are things that I never had to want for (well, sure, I wanted new Rainbow Brite sheets, but not because my old sheets had holes in them or anything).\u00a0 But this year, there are a lot of kids who are asking Santa for a new job for their mom or dad, or confiding in Santa that they know their parents are worried about money, but they\u2019re not supposed to know and so if Santa could just bring them money to help out, the child is happy to go without presents.<br \/>\nIt makes me want to run out and buy boxes and boxes of toys for those kids.<br \/>\nBut mostly, I just want to convey how very impressed I am with all of those Santas who continue to listen to these heartwrenching stories and still keep a jolly smile and always seem to know the right thing to say to these kids.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know that I could do it day in and day out, but I know that it\u2019s got to mean the world to those families to have hope, at least for that day.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Holidailies Prompt:\u00a0 Letter to Santa &#8230; or any other holiday icon you like.
