{"id":763,"date":"2012-09-21T08:00:42","date_gmt":"2012-09-21T12:00:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/?p=763"},"modified":"2012-09-21T08:55:29","modified_gmt":"2012-09-21T12:55:29","slug":"fitness-and-body-image","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/2012\/09\/21\/fitness-and-body-image\/","title":{"rendered":"Fitness and Body Image"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m not going to lie. \u00a0I started running because I thought it would jumpstart my weight loss.<\/p>\n<p>And it did to some degree. \u00a0But then life happened and so did age and medication and I&#8217;m back to having very stubborn fat. \u00a0I&#8217;m a very stubborn person, so it makes sense that my fat would be like me.<\/p>\n<p>A lot of my friends think I&#8217;m crazy when I call myself a fat runner. \u00a0And I admit it, I&#8217;m not the biggest girl out there. \u00a0But I&#8217;m not the smallest either. \u00a0My BMI has me teetering right on the overweight\/obese line. \u00a0My legs are very muscular though, so I think the BMI is a bit skewed. \u00a0Doesn&#8217;t mean my weight is healthy by any means though.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t put on weight in one particular place. \u00a0It likes to go to my thighs, my breasts, my face, but most noticeably to me, my stomach. \u00a0I am insanely self-conscious about my belly rolls. \u00a0I try to wear clothing that doesn&#8217;t emphasize it while still trying to not look pregnant. \u00a0Too much belly disguising can do that to a larger busted woman, after all. \u00a0I know that it doesn&#8217;t work, but it makes me feel better about myself.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t worry about it as much when I run, at least until I see the pictures afterwards. \u00a0When I&#8217;m running, I feel powerful. \u00a0Sure, the water belt around my waist gives me a lovely fat roll, but who cares? I&#8217;m running. \u00a0I see pictures later and think &#8220;Oh man, I so should have sucked it in when I saw that camera.&#8221; \u00a0 But I don&#8217;t let it get to me. \u00a0I have a less than flattering photo of myself hanging on my fridge from a race I ran last year. \u00a0In it, I&#8217;m powering through the finish line, having just earned a new PR. \u00a0I don&#8217;t even notice my stomach in that photo. \u00a0Just the smile on my face (and the giant jet of red hair flying behind me).<\/p>\n<p>As I look at triathlon gear, this is the thing that bothers me the most. \u00a0The tops are tight. \u00a0They should be &#8211; it&#8217;s hard to swim in a loose shirt. \u00a0But there&#8217;s no way for me to hide my body in those. \u00a0Does it mean I&#8217;m not going to do the tri? No. \u00a0But it&#8217;s definitely something I have to get over.<\/p>\n<p>Honestly, I need to lose weight, and ideally, the belly fat would go. \u00a0Being overweight does raise cholesterol levels, and belly fat is the least healthy sort of fat and comes with all sorts of health risks. \u00a0But I have to be honest &#8211; even though I know that I should want it because it will make me healthy, I want it to feel better about the way I look. \u00a0I shouldn&#8217;t care. \u00a0But I do.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m not going to lie. \u00a0I started running because I thought it would jumpstart my weight loss.
