{"id":852,"date":"2012-10-12T08:00:36","date_gmt":"2012-10-12T12:00:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/?p=852"},"modified":"2012-10-09T09:10:17","modified_gmt":"2012-10-09T13:10:17","slug":"marathon-training-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/2012\/10\/12\/marathon-training-update\/","title":{"rendered":"Marathon Training Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m about a month and a half into my official marathon training.\u00a0 So far, my longest run was this past Monday at about 14 miles (13.5 plus a warmup walk and cooldown walk).\u00a0 I&#8217;m not increasing distance again until the weekend of November 3\/4.\u00a0 I have the Baltimore Half Marathon tomorrow and the Army Ten Miler the following weekend.\u00a0 The weekend after that, I will be out of town for a wedding.<\/p>\n<p>I figure that the racing will be good training because even though I&#8217;m not increasing distance, I will be running faster than normal training pace.<\/p>\n<p>My pace has been frustrating as of late.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not doing a lot of speedwork, as it isn&#8217;t recommended in the plan I&#8217;m following.\u00a0 Once I&#8217;m confident that I can handle the distance, I will return to speedwork.\u00a0 I do run my mid-week runs at a faster pace than my weekend runs, but that&#8217;s about it.\u00a0 So I shouldn&#8217;t expect to see any pace improvement. It&#8217;s just frustrating to see my pace falling.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s an example from Monday&#8217;s run.<\/p>\n<p>Mile 1 &#8211; 14:28<br \/>\nMile 2 &#8211; 14:02<br \/>\nMile 3 &#8211; 13:41<br \/>\nMile 4 &#8211; 14:52 (here is where I got stopped by a guy who wanted to chat)<br \/>\nMile 5 &#8211; 13:45<br \/>\nMile 6 &#8211; 13:56<br \/>\nMile 7 &#8211; 14:23 (here is where I stopped to look at map)<br \/>\nMile 8 &#8211; 13:42<br \/>\nMile 9 &#8211; 14:17<br \/>\nMile 10 &#8211; 14:03<br \/>\nMile 11 &#8211; 13:49<br \/>\nMile 12 &#8211; 13:56<br \/>\nMile 13 &#8211; 14:24<br \/>\nFinal .46 &#8211; 6:52<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s about a 14:08 pace.\u00a0 Which I guess isn&#8217;t that bad, now that I look at it.\u00a0 All the calculators say I should be running my long runs at 14:07 based on my half marathon PR, so&#8230; maybe I shouldn&#8217;t complain.\u00a0 It&#8217;s just tough to see those numbers.\u00a0 I&#8217;d like to be running at least under a 14 minute mile.<\/p>\n<p>This is when being slow just eats away at my brain.\u00a0 My goal for the marathon?\u00a0 Finish.\u00a0 I&#8217;d like to finish in the official time, meaning that I need to run 16 minute miles.\u00a0 So if I can keep my training at under 14:30&#8217;s, I&#8217;m fine.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t have any other time goals.\u00a0 Time goals are for my second marathon, assuming there is one.<\/p>\n<p>But it&#8217;s hard to be slow just the same.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m about a month and a half into my official marathon training.\u00a0 So far, my longest run was this past Monday at about 14 miles (13.5 plus a warmup walk and cooldown walk).\u00a0 I&#8217;m not increasing distance again until the weekend of November 3\/4.\u00a0 I have the Baltimore Half Marathon tomorrow and the Army Ten [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_active":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_note":"","_monsterinsights_sitenote_category":0,"jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false,"footnotes":"","jetpack_publicize_message":"","jetpack_is_tweetstorm":false,"jetpack_publicize_feature_enabled":true,"jetpack_social_post_already_shared":false,"jetpack_social_options":{"image_generator_settings":{"template":"highway","enabled":false}}},"categories":[42],"tags":[27,165,151,152],"jetpack_publicize_connections":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v20.7 -
