{"id":912,"date":"2012-11-02T08:00:40","date_gmt":"2012-11-02T12:00:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/?p=912"},"modified":"2012-10-31T08:58:05","modified_gmt":"2012-10-31T12:58:05","slug":"recommitting-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/2012\/11\/02\/recommitting-again\/","title":{"rendered":"Recommitting&#8230; Again"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After a week of gluttony last week (okay, so it wasn&#8217;t that bad), I have realized that I need to recommit to being healthy.\u00a0 I am going on a cruise next September and I would like to be comfortable in a bathing suit.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t plan to be rocking a bikini, but I would like to be confident in my body.\u00a0 I have discovered that I feel best about myself when I have been eating properly and working out and know that my body is strong.\u00a0 I want to be able to rock the toned arms and toned legs and slightly less flabby belly.<\/p>\n<p>As I&#8217;ve discussed before, I&#8217;ve gained about 25 pounds since moving to DC five years ago.\u00a0 There are multiple reasons for this:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>I was in the best shape of my life when I moved here.\u00a0 Exercise was my break from studying for the bar exam. I was also so paranoid that I would get fat while studying that I only ate healthy snacks.<\/li>\n<li>I&#8217;m on an anti-anxiety medication that can cause weight gain.\u00a0 It sucks, but I&#8217;d rather be fat and functioning than crippled by panic attacks.\u00a0 Sure, I&#8217;d love to get off of it, but so far, that hasn&#8217;t been working so well.<\/li>\n<li>I&#8217;m five years older.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Admittedly, some of the weight is probably muscle, as I&#8217;m running much more than I was, but that doesn&#8217;t explain why none of my clothes from five years ago fit and why I&#8217;m getting close to not fitting into the bigger sizes that I bought after gaining weight.<\/p>\n<p>So I need to recommit to being healthy.\u00a0 While I would ideally like to lose those 25 pounds, I&#8217;m trying to not focus so much on the number.\u00a0 I need to lose the belly fat.\u00a0 It&#8217;s unhealthy.\u00a0 Period.<\/p>\n<p>My biggest problem?\u00a0 Snacking.\u00a0 I eat relatively healthy meals, but I have a tendency to put junk into my mouth as a snack. I always tell myself that the little bits and bites don&#8217;t count.\u00a0 But they do count.\u00a0 They count a whole lot.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not following any particular diet plan.\u00a0 I&#8217;m still trying to follow Bob Harper&#8217;s rules and get a lot of protein, but that doesn&#8217;t necessarily equate to low carb.\u00a0 I&#8217;m counting calories using <a href=\"http:\/\/www.myfitnesspal.com\">My Fitness Pal<\/a>.\u00a0 I also am trying to eat more &#8220;real&#8221; foods.\u00a0 It&#8217;s not an all-in thing, because while I would love to remove all processed food from my diet, it&#8217;s just not going to happen.\u00a0 But I am trying to be better about it.\u00a0 To that end, I have subscribed to the <a href=\"https:\/\/healthysurprise.com\/\">Healthy Surprise<\/a> box after seeing some reviews on blogs I read.\u00a0 I got my first box just before the hurricane and was delighted at all the different snacks.\u00a0 They&#8217;re not necessarily low cal, but they are natural, which is important to me.\u00a0 I need to not eat the artificially low-cal snacks and try to stick to healthy foods, even if they are higher in calories.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, I&#8217;m also marathon training, and everyone seems to gain weight during marathon training.\u00a0 I&#8217;m just going to try to force myself to eat well.\u00a0\u00a0 Lots of protein and veggies to refuel, not junk.\u00a0 Doesn&#8217;t mean I&#8217;m not going to go out for pancakes here and there, but it just can&#8217;t be a regular thing.<\/p>\n<p>So we&#8217;ll see how this goes.\u00a0 I&#8217;m getting on the scale on Tuesday to give myself a start number (I was too afraid after getting back from vacation).\u00a0 And we&#8217;ll see what happens.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After a week of gluttony last week (okay, so it wasn&#8217;t that bad), I have realized that I need to recommit to being healthy.\u00a0 I am going on a cruise next September and I would like to be comfortable in a bathing suit.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t plan to be rocking a bikini, but I would like [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_active":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_note":"","_monsterinsights_sitenote_category":0,"jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false,"footnotes":"","jetpack_publicize_message":"","jetpack_is_tweetstorm":false,"jetpack_publicize_feature_enabled":true,"jetpack_social_post_already_shared":false,"jetpack_social_options":{"image_generator_settings":{"template":"highway","enabled":false}}},"categories":[41,112],"tags":[140,107],"jetpack_publicize_connections":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v20.7 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>Recommitting...
