{"id":924,"date":"2012-11-08T08:00:00","date_gmt":"2012-11-08T13:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/?p=924"},"modified":"2012-11-07T08:33:33","modified_gmt":"2012-11-07T13:33:33","slug":"so-sweet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/2012\/11\/08\/so-sweet\/","title":{"rendered":"So Sweet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve been taking a close look at my diet over the past few days and I&#8217;ve discovered one fact: I really like sugar.<\/p>\n<p>Like many Americans, my sugar intake is much higher than it should be.\u00a0 The average is around <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rodale.com\/recommended-sugar-intake\">90 grams<\/a>, when for adult women, it should be around 20 and for adult men, 35.<\/p>\n<p>I thought, &#8220;Oh, there&#8217;s no way I get the average amount of sugar.\u00a0 I must be much lower.&#8221;\u00a0 So I looked at my diet.\u00a0 On Tuesday, a day where I ate no sugary sweets, my intake was 80 grams.\u00a0 Where did it come from?\u00a0 Some of it was in my protein shake, but most was from the two pieces of bread I splurged on at dinner and the fruit I snacked on.\u00a0\u00a0 I must have had a lot of fruit, right?\u00a0 Nope, only around 130 calories of oranges and strawberries.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, fruit is healthy and shouldn&#8217;t be avoided completely, but I need to make sure there is balance.\u00a0 Not all of the sugar I had on Tuesday was good sugar.\u00a0 And it&#8217;s so easy to pop a hard candy in my mouth.\u00a0 More sugar. Plus there are all the products out there with added sugar.\u00a0 It&#8217;s an easy way for weight to creep on.<\/p>\n<p>One thing to remember is that with a lot of products that are low fat, sugars are added to replace the flavor lost by removing the fat.\u00a0 You have to decide what&#8217;s right for you, but it&#8217;s something to keep in mind.<\/p>\n<p>Honestly, I think it will be tough for me to get within the recommended sugar allowances, but it&#8217;s a good goal to work towards.\u00a0 If nothing else, being mindful of added sugars should help improve my diet.\u00a0 It&#8217;s all about knowledge.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve been taking a close look at my diet over the past few days and I&#8217;ve discovered one fact: I really like sugar.
