{"id":954,"date":"2012-11-16T08:00:16","date_gmt":"2012-11-16T13:00:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/?p=954"},"modified":"2012-11-15T08:15:57","modified_gmt":"2012-11-15T13:15:57","slug":"planning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/2012\/11\/16\/planning\/","title":{"rendered":"Planning"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m a bit of a planner.\u00a0 I like to have a schedule.\u00a0 I like to know what I&#8217;m doing when.\u00a0 If I have a goal, I like to know what steps I need to take to get there.\u00a0 So when I have a race, I like to have a training plan to follow.\u00a0 This is mostly because if I don&#8217;t have a plan, I won&#8217;t train, and then I will fail miserably at the race.<\/p>\n<p>So I made a great marathon training plan based on a <a href=\"http:\/\/halhigdon.com\/training\/51137\/Marathon-Novice-1-Training-Program\">Hal Higdon<\/a> plan.\u00a0 I modified it slightly to fit my schedule, knowing that I had races on certain weekends and events that would leave me swamped on other weekends.\u00a0 I even left a bit of padding in case something happened and I didn&#8217;t get in a long run as planned.<\/p>\n<p>And then I stuck to my schedule.\u00a0 Which is awesome.\u00a0 Except that it now needed some serious tweaking or I was going to be ready for the race way too early.\u00a0 So I enlisted the help of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.runningoftheears.com\">some amazing friends<\/a> and now I have a new plan.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Nov 18 &#8211; Philadelphia Half<\/li>\n<li>Nov 25 &#8211; 17 miles<\/li>\n<li>Dec 2 &#8211; 14 miles<\/li>\n<li>Dec 9 &#8211; 18 miles (maybe including a 15k race, maybe not)<\/li>\n<li>Dec 15\/16 &#8211; 5 mile race and two epic choir concerts that hurt more than any run<\/li>\n<li>Dec 21 &#8211; 20 miles.\u00a0 Eeep.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Yes, December 21 is a Friday.\u00a0 I have that day off and planned to use it for getting ready for my trip to my hometown for Christmas and then to a friend&#8217;s wedding in Michigan.\u00a0 But it makes sense to also do a 20 mile run that day.\u00a0 Does that leave me slightly stressed with all of the other things I will need to do, like pack and get the house ready for the pet sitter?\u00a0 Absolutely.\u00a0 But it&#8217;s how things work best.\u00a0 And now that I know the plan, I can work the plan and get everything done in time.<\/p>\n<p>And then run a marathon.\u00a0 Yikes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m a bit of a planner.\u00a0 I like to have a schedule.\u00a0 I like to know what I&#8217;m doing when.\u00a0 If I have a goal, I like to know what steps I need to take to get there.\u00a0 So when I have a race, I like to have a training plan to follow.\u00a0 This is [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_active":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_note":"","_monsterinsights_sitenote_category":0,"jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false,"footnotes":"","jetpack_publicize_message":"","jetpack_is_tweetstorm":false,"jetpack_publicize_feature_enabled":true,"jetpack_social_post_already_shared":false,"jetpack_social_options":{"image_generator_settings":{"template":"highway","enabled":false}}},"categories":[42],"tags":[],"jetpack_publicize_connections":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v20.7 -
