Motivation Monday – Think About Why You Started

Why did you start?  Whether you’re a runner, a biker, a gym rat, a swimmer, a triathlete, a dancer, a fitness fanatic, or some other active type, what got you out there?

What got you out there the first time?  A finisher’s medal?  A pesky friend?  The desire to look better in your clothing?  The desire to lose weight or lower cholesterol?  The need to be healthy?  Did it just look fun?

I started running because I didn’t think I could do it.  No one thought I could do it.  But when I learned about C25K, I thought I should give it a shot.  And it was all over after that.  I ran my first half marathon because I wanted the medal and I wanted to prove to myself I could do it.  I’m running my first marathon for similar reasons.

And I do want to be healthy and do something good for my body.  So there are lots of benefits to my active lifestyle.  Sometimes that’s hard to remember when I’m waking up at 5 am to run, but it’s worth it.

Why did you start?
