{"id":1281,"date":"2013-01-24T08:00:12","date_gmt":"2013-01-24T13:00:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/?p=1281"},"modified":"2013-01-24T08:07:52","modified_gmt":"2013-01-24T13:07:52","slug":"marathon-recovery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/2013\/01\/24\/marathon-recovery\/","title":{"rendered":"Marathon Recovery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Some people say that after a race, you should rest a day for every mile you ran.\u00a0 Resting for 26 days?\u00a0 Yeah, that&#8217;s not going to happen.\u00a0 I have another race soon!\u00a0 So I had to find a better plan.\u00a0 Since I used a modified <a href=\"http:\/\/halhigdon.com\">Hal Higdon<\/a> plan to get me to the marathon, I&#8217;m following a modified version of his <a href=\"http:\/\/halhigdon.com\/training\/51152\/Marathon-Training-Guide-Marathon-Recovery\">marathon recovery plan<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>One interesting thing I learned &#8211; it can take 2-3 weeks to recover from running a marathon.\u00a0 Admittedly, I walked at least ten miles of the marathon due to the heat and my sister&#8217;s injury, so I fully anticipate recovering a bit more quickly.\u00a0 That said, I&#8217;m trying to be careful.<\/p>\n<p>So for what Higdon calls zero week, the week immediately following the marathon, I was mostly a slug.\u00a0 I stretched a bit and massaged a particularly stubborn knot in my calf.\u00a0 By Thursday, I hopped on my bike.\u00a0 I cleaned the house and took down the Christmas tree.\u00a0 And on Sunday, I set out for a nice easy 5-6 miles.<\/p>\n<p>This run was not all I hoped it would be.\u00a0 It was only 6 miles!\u00a0 Shouldn&#8217;t that be easy after training for 26.2?\u00a0 But I just felt sluggish.\u00a0 I couldn&#8217;t get into my running groove.\u00a0 I kept looking at my watch and realizing just how slow I was going, but couldn&#8217;t convince my body to speed up.\u00a0 All in all, it was a frustrating run, but it was still good to get it in.<\/p>\n<p>But I guess that&#8217;s what marathon recovery is all about.\u00a0 I&#8217;m trying to ease back in a bit more this week, adding cycling as a more regular bit of crosstraining, seeing as I have a triathlon in a few months.\u00a0 I&#8217;m also planning to hit the Team Fight group swim tonight.\u00a0 It kind of terrifies me, but I&#8217;m going to do it anyway.<\/p>\n<p>The major key to this plan is to take everything easy.\u00a0 I might seem like I&#8217;m doing a lot, but each workout is going to be light.\u00a0 Low stress.\u00a0 Easing back in.\u00a0 No time for injuries, after all!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Some people say that after a race, you should rest a day for every mile you ran.\u00a0 Resting for 26 days?\u00a0 Yeah, that&#8217;s not going to happen.\u00a0 I have another race soon!\u00a0 So I had to find a better plan.\u00a0 Since I used a modified Hal Higdon plan to get me to the marathon, I&#8217;m [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_active":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_note":"","_monsterinsights_sitenote_category":0,"jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false,"footnotes":"","jetpack_publicize_message":"","jetpack_is_tweetstorm":false,"jetpack_publicize_feature_enabled":true,"jetpack_social_post_already_shared":true,"jetpack_social_options":{"image_generator_settings":{"template":"highway","enabled":false}}},"categories":[42],"tags":[],"jetpack_publicize_connections":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v20.7 -
