{"id":1314,"date":"2013-02-06T08:00:50","date_gmt":"2013-02-06T13:00:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/?p=1314"},"modified":"2013-02-04T11:42:53","modified_gmt":"2013-02-04T16:42:53","slug":"increasing-my-movement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/2013\/02\/06\/increasing-my-movement\/","title":{"rendered":"Increasing My Movement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At the beginning of the year, after realizing that I had completely failed at my weight loss goals for 2012, I signed up for Weight Watchers again.\u00a0 While there are free alternatives available, I had two reasons for this:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>If I&#8217;m paying for a service, I&#8217;m that much more likely to use it<\/li>\n<li>I was intrigued by their new ActiveLink gadget<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>A few friends were using the Weight Watchers ActiveLink, a little gadget the size of a flash drive, to assist them in their weight loss journey.\u00a0 It measures your movement in three directions and calculates your activity points for you.\u00a0 I really liked the concept behind this.\u00a0 One thing that I always struggle with is figuring out how many points or calories that I earned for a workout.\u00a0 I had a feeling I was overestimating.\u00a0 So this seemed like a good way to check it out.<\/p>\n<p>In some of the reviews, people were complaining that they earned fewer points for their workouts.\u00a0 Okay, that&#8217;s something I expected.\u00a0 But then they started talking about their baseline and how it hurt the number of points the earned.\u00a0 But what is a baseline?<\/p>\n<p>Your baseline is the amount of activity you should get every day based on your age and weight.\u00a0 Once you hit that amount of activity, then you can start earning points. Makes sense.<\/p>\n<p>With the ActiveLink, you start out with a week of wearing it for an assessment.\u00a0 Unfortunately, until the assessment is done, you don&#8217;t know how many points you&#8217;re earning per day, so that week can be a bit annoying.\u00a0 But it&#8217;s worth it.\u00a0 After the assessment, I was put on a challenge to earn 4 points per day.\u00a0 Seems easy, right?<\/p>\n<p>What I quickly learned was that I wasn&#8217;t getting to my baseline.\u00a0 On rest days and days that I lifted weights, I struggled to get to my baseline because I have a fairly sedentary job.\u00a0 And even with running and biking, I wasn&#8217;t always getting to 100% of my goal.\u00a0 (Other days, like on long run days and Team Fight swim days, I was easily surpassing it.)<\/p>\n<p>So clearly I need to learn to be more active aside from working out.\u00a0 I&#8217;m making it a point to get up from my desk every hour.\u00a0 I use the bathroom on the floor down so that I have to take the stairs.\u00a0 My house is cleaner as well!\u00a0 If I get home and find that I&#8217;m still low on my activity, I clean something, just to keep my body moving.<\/p>\n<p>I like that activity isn&#8217;t a single thing anymore.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t say &#8220;Well, I ran 4 miles, so I earned X points.&#8221;\u00a0 Instead, it&#8217;s &#8220;Today, including my run, I earned 4 points and hit my goal.&#8221;\u00a0 Because I don&#8217;t earn points until I have hit that baseline, it encourages me to stay active even if I worked out before heading to work.\u00a0 On Monday, for example, I ran 4 miles before work, but when I plugged in the ActiveLink, I still hadn&#8217;t earned any points.\u00a0 I was pretty close to earning a point though, since I was already past the baseline.\u00a0 So if I wanted to earn points, I had to be active throughout the day as well.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m hoping this time, the weight loss plan will be a success.\u00a0 I have the knowledge.\u00a0 I have the tools.\u00a0 My biggest downfall is that I let life events get me off track.\u00a0 This weekend, while my sister visited, we ate fairly poorly.\u00a0 It was an excuse to eat out, and I should have made better choices.\u00a0 Lesson learned.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 My ultimate goal is simply to get my BMI into a healthy range, though I would like to get my body back into the clothes in my closet that I have inadvertently outgrown as well.\u00a0 Nothing drastic, just down to a healthy weight.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At the beginning of the year, after realizing that I had completely failed at my weight loss goals for 2012, I signed up for Weight Watchers again.\u00a0 While there are free alternatives available, I had two reasons for this: If I&#8217;m paying for a service, I&#8217;m that much more likely to use it I was [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_active":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_note":"","_monsterinsights_sitenote_category":0,"jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false,"footnotes":"","jetpack_publicize_message":"","jetpack_is_tweetstorm":false,"jetpack_publicize_feature_enabled":true,"jetpack_social_post_already_shared":true,"jetpack_social_options":{"image_generator_settings":{"template":"highway","enabled":false}}},"categories":[112],"tags":[],"jetpack_publicize_connections":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v20.7 -
