{"id":1893,"date":"2013-05-29T08:00:07","date_gmt":"2013-05-29T12:00:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/?p=1893"},"modified":"2013-05-29T06:36:41","modified_gmt":"2013-05-29T10:36:41","slug":"strength-training-or-lack-thereof","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/2013\/05\/29\/strength-training-or-lack-thereof\/","title":{"rendered":"Strength Training&#8230; Or Lack Thereof"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week, I had a massage, which was equally relaxing and excruciating.\u00a0 This, in my eyes, is the perfect massage. \u00a0My legs were a mess. \u00a0I stretch. \u00a0I foam roll. \u00a0But sometimes, there are knots that only a trained massage therapist can work out.<\/p>\n<p>My massage therapist pointed out something I already knew.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;How much do you strength train?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Not enough.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Well, if you don&#8217;t do anything else, work on your adductors. \u00a0Your other thighs are strong from the running, but your inner thighs are weak and this imbalance will lead to knee pain.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He isn&#8217;t wrong.<\/p>\n<p>I used to be very good about strength training. \u00a0I own and love ChaLEAN Extreme. \u00a0I own weights from 2 pounds all the way up to 25 pounds. \u00a0But once I started triathlon training, strength training sort of went out the window.<\/p>\n<p>But I need to bring it back. \u00a0The question is when.<\/p>\n<p>My workout schedule is already crazy in the non-athlete&#8217;s eyes. \u00a0Swim Tuesday morning, brick Wednesday, Team Fight swim Thursday, run Friday (well, usually), and long bike and long run workouts flip flop between Saturday and Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Well, obviously, you have Monday free. \u00a0Strength train then.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>And that&#8217;s probably what I am going to do for the summer. \u00a0One day of strength probably isn&#8217;t enough, but it&#8217;s better than nothing to start out. \u00a0Once the summer ends though, Monday nights are choir rehearsal nights. \u00a0So I&#8217;ll have to figure something out then. \u00a0Of course, triathlon training will also be over and I will be into marathon training again. \u00a0A whole new kind of pain.<\/p>\n<p>I know that once I get back into it, I will love the strength training. \u00a0But sometimes, I love just having a day off to relax. \u00a0And by relax, I mean run around the house getting things done that didn&#8217;t get done over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Race training is insane. \u00a0But I guess there are worse hobbies to have.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last week, I had a massage, which was equally relaxing and excruciating.\u00a0 This, in my eyes, is the perfect massage. \u00a0My legs were a mess. \u00a0I stretch. \u00a0I foam roll. \u00a0But sometimes, there are knots that only a trained massage therapist can work out.
