{"id":1937,"date":"2013-06-12T08:00:55","date_gmt":"2013-06-12T12:00:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/?p=1937"},"modified":"2013-06-11T09:24:21","modified_gmt":"2013-06-11T13:24:21","slug":"rest-days","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/2013\/06\/12\/rest-days\/","title":{"rendered":"Rest Days"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/small__3304723164.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1942\" alt=\"small__3304723164\" src=\"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/small__3304723164.jpg\" width=\"320\" height=\"207\" srcset=\"https:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/small__3304723164.jpg 320w, https:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/small__3304723164-300x194.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" \/><\/a>photo credit: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/kinglomo\/3304723164\/\">King&#8230;.<\/a> via <a href=\"http:\/\/photopin.com\">photopin<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/creativecommons.org\/licenses\/by\/2.0\/\">cc<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The general wisdom is that after a race, you should rest one day for every mile raced.<\/p>\n<p>I know of no runners who do this.\u00a0 Rest for 26 days after a marathon?\u00a0 I know marathoners who are already running their next race in those 26 days!<\/p>\n<p>But I do try to at least take a few days off.\u00a0 However, I have no idea how that applies to triathlons.\u00a0 Clearly, it&#8217;s not per mile, or Ironman finishers would be taking months off.\u00a0 So I&#8217;m taking a few days and then going back to swim practice tomorrow night.<\/p>\n<p>I admit, some of this is just due to life being busy.\u00a0 Tonight, we&#8217;re going to see Spirit of the Marathon II, which I&#8217;m super excited about.\u00a0 And I just couldn&#8217;t bring myself to get up early to run.\u00a0 I&#8217;m sure after watching the movie, I&#8217;ll want to jump right back into training.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m enjoying the fact that my summer is relatively race free and that I don&#8217;t have to worry about running a half marathon until sometime in September.\u00a0 While I enjoy the crowded race schedule, sometimes, it&#8217;s nice to have the flexibility to slow down a bit.\u00a0 I&#8217;m looking forward to a few lazy weekends at home (note &#8211; by lazy, I still mean that I will be doing both a long bike and a long run) and being able to get my house back into order.\u00a0 I have this giant list of home improvement projects that I never find time to get to.<\/p>\n<p>But for now, it&#8217;s about rest.\u00a0 Tonight, I might sit on the couch and watch tv.\u00a0 I can&#8217;t tell you the last time I did that.\u00a0 But I am painfully behind in Game of Thrones (I&#8217;ve read the books, so I knew the &#8220;big&#8221; plot twist that was going to happen), and you know, cleaning off the DVR does count as cleaning, after all.\u00a0 It&#8217;s productive!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>photo credit: King&#8230;. via photopin cc The general wisdom is that after a race, you should rest one day for every mile raced.
