{"id":2018,"date":"2013-06-26T08:00:12","date_gmt":"2013-06-26T12:00:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/?p=2018"},"modified":"2013-06-23T10:14:56","modified_gmt":"2013-06-23T14:14:56","slug":"carrying-water","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/2013\/06\/26\/carrying-water\/","title":{"rendered":"Carrying Water"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A lot of new runners wonder whether or not they should carry water during their races. \u00a0My opinion? \u00a0Do what feels right to you.<\/p>\n<p>Some runners will tell you that it&#8217;s pointless to carry your own water in a race. \u00a0There are water stops. \u00a0Carrying water just means carrying extra weight. \u00a0These are true facts.<\/p>\n<p>Personally? \u00a0I carry water at every single race. \u00a0Not enough to get me through the race, but enough that if I want a drink between water stops or if water stops are just too crowded, I can drink from my bottle and not have to worry about it.<\/p>\n<p>I train wearing a water belt or carry a handheld bottle. \u00a0So I&#8217;m used to having water whenever I want it. \u00a0Why change that for a race? \u00a0My water belt doesn&#8217;t bother me, and I&#8217;m not fast enough to worry about being weighed down.<\/p>\n<p>I only carry a handheld for a race of 5K or less. \u00a0For longer races, I wear a water belt. \u00a0I have a couple of different belts, most made by Amphipod, just because those are the ones that work the best for me. \u00a0There are a bunch of options out there though, so check them out if you&#8217;re interested.<\/p>\n<p>You should do what feels right to you and not worry about what others are doing. \u00a0If you hate carrying water, or don&#8217;t want to be bothered with a water belt, then don&#8217;t worry about it. \u00a0A well organized race will have plenty of water for you on the course. \u00a0But if you feel more comfortable with your own water bottles, then carry them. \u00a0It&#8217;s up to you. \u00a0You&#8217;ll see people who have made both choices out on the course.<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t worry about how you will look either way. \u00a0It&#8217;s about how you feel. \u00a0If you are comfortable, you&#8217;ll have a better race, no matter which way you choose to go with water.<\/p>\n<p>And if there are any typos in this post, I blame my writing partner.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/20130623-100602.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2019\" alt=\"20130623-100602.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/20130623-100602.jpg\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A lot of new runners wonder whether or not they should carry water during their races. \u00a0My opinion? \u00a0Do what feels right to you.
