Okay, so that title is pretty much an inside joke, but when Kim<\/a> and I travel, our trip hashtags tend to be #buyallthethings and #eatallthethings.\u00a0 Because really, what is a vacation without shopping and eating?<\/p>\n

Of course, this theory goes well with racing.\u00a0 Except for me, right now, it’s #spendallthemoneys.<\/p>\n

Racing is expensive.\u00a0 My new triathlon hobby especially so.\u00a0 I read somewhere recently that triathlon is the new golf because it’s a hobby for people with money.\u00a0 A high percentage of triathletes (Ironman level, I believe) make over $100,000 a year and that’s how they fund their hobby.<\/p>\n

I’m not an Ironman, but I also don’t make over $100,000 a year.\u00a0 And I know plenty of triathletes who do distances from sprint to Ironman who also don’t make that kind of money.<\/p>\n

But either way, the races get expensive.<\/p>\n

The other night, I found myself getting talked into another triathlon.\u00a0 It’s driving distance, I had a place to stay, and it’s only two weeks after Iron Girl Columbia.\u00a0 Perfect, right?\u00a0 Well, it’s also the week before my half marathon, which probably isn’t the best for training.\u00a0 Also, it would cost $160 to register, plus hotel costs and food.<\/p>\n

It was ultimately the money that helped me make the decision.\u00a0 I really can’t be spending $200+ on a weekend away when I have so many other big things coming up.\u00a0 Like a cruise!\u00a0 And a marathon trip!\u00a0 And saving for all of next year’s races!<\/p>\n

So for now, the money is staying safely in my wallet.\u00a0 Maybe I’ll do that race next year.<\/p>\n
