{"id":2171,"date":"2013-08-09T08:00:16","date_gmt":"2013-08-09T12:00:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/?p=2171"},"modified":"2013-08-08T08:37:43","modified_gmt":"2013-08-08T12:37:43","slug":"taper-madness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/2013\/08\/09\/taper-madness\/","title":{"rendered":"Taper Madness"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_2172\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2172\" style=\"width: 305px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/small__5224259574.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2172\" alt=\"photo credit: ~Jetta Girl~ via photopin cc\" src=\"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/small__5224259574.jpg\" width=\"305\" height=\"320\" srcset=\"https:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/small__5224259574.jpg 305w, https:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/small__5224259574-285x300.jpg 285w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 305px) 100vw, 305px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2172\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">photo credit: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/jettajet\/5224259574\/\">~Jetta Girl~<\/a> via <a href=\"http:\/\/photopin.com\">photopin<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/creativecommons.org\/licenses\/by-nc-nd\/2.0\/\">cc<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>My training plan for next weekend&#8217;s triathlon has me on a two week taper.\u00a0 I&#8217;m taking it to a bit of an extreme with no swimming or biking this weekend because I will be out of town, but I hope to fit in a quick run.<\/p>\n<p>Taper time always leads to a bit of craziness.\u00a0 There&#8217;s a reason they call it Taper Madness.\u00a0 You&#8217;re spent so much time building up to long workouts, and then you step back before the race.\u00a0 But it&#8217;s not race day yet!\u00a0 I need to train more!<\/p>\n<p>But the important thing right now is to rest my body and make sure that I&#8217;m not worn out before race morning.\u00a0 The last thing I want to do is get there and find that my legs are suddenly made of concrete.<\/p>\n<p>That doesn&#8217;t mean that I plan to sit on the couch until race morning, of course.\u00a0 It means that my workouts get progressively more scaled back.\u00a0 For example, Wednesday&#8217;s brick was 15 minutes shorter than last week&#8217;s.\u00a0 Next week, I won&#8217;t have a brick &#8211; just an easy bike ride to keep my legs loose.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately for me, this also means that I have to scale back my eating.\u00a0 Last week was probably the hardest workout week for me, and it was kind of awesome.\u00a0 I feel like I ate a ton and I still lost weight.\u00a0 Can&#8217;t do that this week.\u00a0 (Yes, I admit it, I workout so I can eat.)<br \/>\nI really love food.<\/p>\n<p>Since I will be spending less time working out, maybe I should use this next week to get the house back into shape.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t know how people train for an Ironman, work a full time job, and still keep up with their household tasks.\u00a0 Maybe those people require less sleep than I do.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s be honest.\u00a0 I will make big plans for what I will do with all my free time and then I will end up wasting it playing on the computer or watching tv.\u00a0 But hey, it&#8217;s all about the rest, right?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My training plan for next weekend&#8217;s triathlon has me on a two week taper.\u00a0 I&#8217;m taking it to a bit of an extreme with no swimming or biking this weekend because I will be out of town, but I hope to fit in a quick run.
