{"id":2558,"date":"2014-01-29T08:07:23","date_gmt":"2014-01-29T13:07:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/?p=2558"},"modified":"2014-01-29T08:07:23","modified_gmt":"2014-01-29T13:07:23","slug":"what-i-ate-wednesday-or-not","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/2014\/01\/29\/what-i-ate-wednesday-or-not\/","title":{"rendered":"What I Ate Wednesday&#8230; or not"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/1st__2nd_course_place_setting.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2559\" alt=\"1st &amp; 2nd Course place setting\" src=\"http:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/1st__2nd_course_place_setting-300x300.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/1st__2nd_course_place_setting-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/1st__2nd_course_place_setting-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/elbowglitter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/1st__2nd_course_place_setting.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>So it&#8217;s Wednesday (though in my brain, it&#8217;s Thursday, for no apparent reason).\u00a0 And around the health and fitness blogosphere, that makes it What I Ate Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>I kind of hate WIAW.<\/p>\n<p>Not because I mind pictures of food or because I don&#8217;t care about what a person ate.\u00a0 If a subject of a blog post doesn&#8217;t interest me, I don&#8217;t have to read it.\u00a0 Just because I don&#8217;t read every single post on the blogs I read doesn&#8217;t mean I don&#8217;t still like that writer in general.<\/p>\n<p>No, what I hate about WIAW is the snobbishness that comes with it.\u00a0 There was recently an article going around about how fitness blogging leads to disordered eating and I often feel like WIAW really promotes that.\u00a0 It&#8217;s as if people feel the need to show off their restricted eating.\u00a0 &#8220;See, look how little I ate.\u00a0 I deserve praise for being so healthy.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s pretty rare that WIAW features a giant piece of cake.<\/p>\n<p>Obviously, healthy eating is good for you.\u00a0 But there&#8217;s healthy eating and then there&#8217;s crazy restrictive eating with supplements and frankenfoods making up huge parts of your meals.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not saying my diet is perfect.\u00a0 Far from it.\u00a0 But I feel like all WIAW does is help promote disordered eating.\u00a0 I see a lot of meals on tiny plates.\u00a0 Meals that can&#8217;t have more than 200 calories in them (and not from people who are eating a bunch of tiny meals).\u00a0 Days of diets that appear to be nearly completely fat free.\u00a0 None of this can be healthy.<\/p>\n<p>And you start to see it in the bloggers.\u00a0 You all know the type I&#8217;m talking about.\u00a0 The bloggers who looked great two years ago.\u00a0 Who maybe had a little belly, but their hair was gorgeous and their skin glowed.\u00a0 Now, they&#8217;re smaller, showing off more muscle, but they don&#8217;t look healthy.\u00a0 Sunken eyes, thinning hair&#8230; those aren&#8217;t signs of a healthy body.\u00a0 But because they have a smaller waist, it&#8217;s considered good.\u00a0 So others read this and think &#8220;Okay, if they can do it, so can I.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Now I&#8217;m not saying WIAW necessarily leads to ill health &#8211; but if you post about it, maybe take a second glance at what you&#8217;re posting.\u00a0 And then take a second glance at what you&#8217;re eating.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So it&#8217;s Wednesday (though in my brain, it&#8217;s Thursday, for no apparent reason).\u00a0 And around the health and fitness blogosphere, that makes it What I Ate Wednesday.
