First off, an apology to my male readers.  But today’s post is going to be about sports bras.

Or maybe that just got your attention.

While spectating for the Disney Half in January, my friends and I noticed a number of women wearing completely inappropriate bras for the race.  How did we know?  You couldn’t miss it.  Some of these women had breasts bouncing so much that it had to be painful!

Did you know that breasts are held up by ligaments?  And if you stretch those ligaments too much, they won’t go back to where they were?  That’s right, if your bra isn’t supportive enough, you can end up with sagging.  And no one wants that!

How do you know if your bra is supportive enough?  Put it on and jump up and down.  Jog in front of a mirror.  You should be able to tell.  You want as little bounce as possible.  Your bra should be tighter than your normal everyday bra, but you should still be able to breathe.

And sadly, sports bras only last around a year.  So check out your sports bra collection and start weeding out!

Where should you shop?  My go to stores are Title Nine and Bare Necessities.  T9 has a Bounce store dedicated to bras.  Unfortunately, if you’re bigger than a DD cup, you will have a limited selection there.  As a hard to fit gal, Bare Necessities is actually my go-to bra shop due to a wide selection and a great return policy.

I have bras by a couple different brands, including Moving Comfort and Anita, but for long distance running, my go-to bra is the Enell.

ENELL_sportIt’s not the prettiest (though they are now coming in cute colors!), but it’s pretty awesome.  Nothing moves.  Plus I’m not exactly concerned about how the bra looks – this white belly isn’t going to see the sun anytime soon.

But sports bra preference is personal.  So do some shopping!  Find out what works for you.  But please, make sure that your bra fits!  You will be so glad you did.

  1. OMG, I was JUST working on a post about sports bras that I’m going to post next week! That is too funny. I have heard great things about Enell, I’ve just been too much of a cheapo to try them out.

  2. They are not cheap, that’s for sure. But I figure it’s worth the cost to me. I started out owning one and washing it a lot. Now I have two, which is sufficient.

  3. I love Enell, especially for my long runs – it’s not pretty but it’s the only one I’ve found that keeps my girls from going on a jog of their own…

  4. Haha! We really are the same person! I wrote one about running bras last night that I scheduled to post this morning! No idea you were doing one, too! How crazy is that!?!?!

  5. I’m not eligible for the B-cup-and-up club, but my bigger busted friends have said wearing two sports bras helps a ton with bouncing.

  6. That’s what I hear, AC, but I’d rather just find a bra where I can wear only one and have it do what it should!
