Last night, I had a 3 mile run on the schedule. I’ve really got to get into gear on marathon training. I’m not really behind, but I FEEL behind, which is probably worse.
Around 3pm, when my energy always flags, I found myself trying to talk myself out of my run. “I’m tired.” “My legs are really sore from volunteering.” (Hours and hours of squats while filling water cups.) “I can just do a 5 miler tomorrow.”
What got me into gear wasn’t the fact that I need to run but the fact that I needed the calorie burn. I’ve realized that I’m up nearly 40 lbs over the past 6 years. Admittedly, when I moved to DC 6 years ago, I was uncommonly thin (oh, the joys of the bar exam). And while I don’t plan to lose the entire 40 pounds, some of it needs to come off, if only to have less weight to carry up the hills on my bike.
I looked at my step count for the day, knew it was low, and decided I would get on the treadmill and try for a run. Besides, the DVR is filled with trashy goodness.
So I did it. And it felt pretty good. Once I got moving, I didn’t feel so tired. I’m not going to say it was a life-changing run or anything. It wasn’t my best, and by the end, I was ready to be done. But I got it in.
And then I had cereal for dinner because I was too lazy to cook.
You win some, you lose some.
Man, the Fitbit is the best thing. I did the same thing yesterday – got home super lazy and cranky, looked at my step count, made myself go for a walk, and felt so much better. Fitbit = motivation!
I am a great proponent of cereal. Was it multigrain peanut butter Cheerios? If not, it should be!

It was a combo of Kashi GoLean and Barbara’s Cinnamon Puffins. I did not know Cheerios came in a multigrain peanut butter version. Adding to the shopping list! Sounds yum!
Ahh, bar exam weight. Yup, that was 15 pounds ago…
I’m totally in the same lull.
