Well, my weekend did not quite go as planned and I didn’t get in all the workouts I wanted.  I did spend plenty of time with friends, including two friends from college who I haven’t seen in years.  So it was a fun weekend.  I’m just feeling a bit lazy.

I did, however, get back out to the weekend Iron Girl course ride yesterday.  This was my second time at the ride, and I felt so much better about the ride than I did the last time.  Getting out and tackling those hills is great for my confidence and it’s an incredible workout.

I’m getting a lot better at clipping in and out on my bike and I’m pretty good about the gears on my bike.  Made it through all the hills without walking again, so that was key.  One of the riders was showing us how to stand up and power up the hills, but I just feel off balance.  He was impressed that I could power up the hills without looking like I was going to die.  I guess that was a compliment.

It was hot yesterday – probably mid-90’s by the time we finished.  Definitely key to remember to hydrate.  I did okay and felt good after the race. We did have one poor woman stop at an intersection, throw her bike down, and begin throwing up.  But she then got up and got back on the bike.  More power to her!  I don’t know that I’d be able to do that.  So she wins the hardcore award for the day.

I’m so lucky that I have the chance to do this course ride.  It makes me that much more confident about the triathlon.  And again, it’s an awesome workout.  I just hope my legs are ready for tomorrow’s swim!

  1. Sounds as if you had a very good bike ride. I also feel more confident about my rapidly approaching triathlon after a session at the beach where the swim is going to take place. My trainer loaned me a wet suit and I was amazed at how much less effort (compared with YMCA pool) was involved in swimming in salt water in a wet suit — despite being knocked about by breaking waves. Followed that with a bike ride covering half of the event bike distance (i.e., the race is two laps and we biked one lap). Now I have to really work on my running.
