Managed to actually make it to the pool today. Go me!
Since I do two pool workouts a week, I try to make Tuesday’s (or Wednesday’s, in this case) an endurance workout while Thursday’s is a team swim filled with painful drills.
By that, I mean that on the first workout of the week, I just try to swim without stopping. I aim to hit 1600 meters (32 laps), and so far this year, that’s been working. I’m still fairly slow. Today, that took me 50 minutes. But I stopped more often than I would like because I was lazy. And also because I’m easily distracted. I have considered getting headphones for in the pool, but on some level, it’s good to be able to just put my head down and swim. Much better preparation for races, I think.
I’d like to get that 1600 under 45 minutes, and I think it’s very possible if I just focus. But it would be nice to do it without thinking. I’ll get there. I just need to keep working at it. I’m also doing my best to balance my heart rate issues with swimming. After all, if my HR gets too high while running, I can stop. Not an option while swimming. That said, I could swim faster. I’m just being a little lazy about it.
I do enjoy the swim workout though. It’s nice to be using my upper body for once!
I hear ya. I suffer from boredom when swimming lengths and find every excuse to stop for a break. I have used music a few times and it works really well. Stops your mind from wandering off and keeps you in the zone.
cheers
