Since the Holidailies prompts don’t come up until the morning of the prompt, I haven’t been able to keep up. If you haven’t guessed, I write most of my posts early and then have them scheduled to post at 8am Eastern each weekday. I’m at work when the posts go up! Also, I’m not organized enough to actually write and post every single morning.
So here are the prompts for the past few days.
Tell us about your favorite holiday book or movie?
Here is an opportunity for me to use the internet to find information! I have very little info though. Years ago, my parents had this newspaper copy of a story about a little boy and Christmas. It was probably from a NY/NJ area paper, and it was probably a 4 page spread. It was color, and I don’t remember the details, which makes it hard to search for. I think the boy might have been an elf of some sort? I remember loving this story, but I have no idea what it was or how to find it since I remember so very little about it.
Obviously, I’m a big fan of National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. I clearly adore animals, but that scene with the cat makes me laugh every time. I also really love The Muppet Christmas Carol. “Light the lamp, not the rat!”
Tell us about your favorite holiday food.
Oh man. Christmas is about food in our family. And too much of it. We don’t really have a traditional Christmas dish, which I like. It’s sort of “What will everyone like.” It’s never formal – always serve yourself in the kitchen and sit wherever you can find a spot, but the food is incredible. Last year, we had seared ahi tuna along with some form of red meat and sides. The tuna was delicious. It’s an excuse for my parents to try out new dishes, I think, and there’s always something for everyone. The hard part is not filling up on appetizers beforehand. There is always baked brie at Christmas. I could eat that for every meal. I would no longer fit out the door, but it would be delicious.
Of course, before Christmas Dinner, we have Christmas Breakfast. Mom insists on plying us all with mimosas and bellinis, which can be fun or rough, depending on how much wine we drank at the family gathering the night before. There are always various baked goods and usually a few cookies sneak their way in and Dad does eggs to order along with potatoes and bacon and other good stuff. It’s a lot of fun and always delicious.
Man, now I’m hungry.
