Giveaway – 2013 Run for the Dream Half and 8k!

I am so excited about this giveaway.  One lucky winner will receive a free entry into the 2013 Run for the Dream Half Marathon or 8k.  And that lucky winner can also meet me if they so choose.  But that’s not a requirement of winning.  But onto the race itself, which will be held the weekend of June 1-2 in Williamsburg, VA.  Yes, that’s right, you get to run through Colonial Williamsburg.  But wait, there’s more!  Here’s the official info about the race, interspersed with my commentary.  And if you read all the way to the end, there might be a coupon code too!

Run for the Dream

A World-Class Race and a weekend you won’t forget! Run or walk the 8K or half marathon through historic Colonial Williamsburg and enjoy the scenic tree-lined Colonial Parkway along the James River. Runners receive a hero’s welcome with a celebrated finish in the College of William & Mary football Stadium. There’s also a Kids Fun Run with three lengths: 100 meter, 400 meter and one mile. Celebrate with your friends and family at the Post-Race Bash with music, barbecue, beer and soft drinks.

(This barbecue is awesome.  Seriously, I have hyped this race based only on the sandwiches.  And if you don’t like BBQ, well, this is an opportunity to make a friend by sharing your sandwich.)

(check out my cameo around the 35 second mark)

The Run for the Dream is proud to host the 2013 USA Masters 8 km National Championships.

Looking for a challenge? Take on the Patriot’s Challenge!

An impressive display of initiative, determination and spirit was shown by the Colonial patriots, the men and women of the American Colonies who banded together and overthrew an empire. We invite you to run both the 8K and Half Marathon and receive a total of 3 medals for your efforts! Are YOU a Patriot?

All runners will receive cool swag: a souvenir shirt, upgraded finishers’ medals and a “goodie” bag. The Run for the Dream is professionally managed by Dave McGillivray, famed race director of the Boston Marathon, and his race operations staff, DMSE Sports, Inc.

(Seriously, it’s an incredibly well-run race.  I ran the inaugural year and it went off without a hitch, not always the norm for a brand new race.)

Make a weekend of it! The first 3,000 registrants receive a free $70 ticket and $15 food voucher for Busch Gardens as well as a $40 pass to Colonial Williamsburg. Enjoy spring in Virginia, discovering the Historic Triangle – years of history combined with unique dining venues, wineries, museums, amusement parks, shopping outlets, boutiques, galleries and more. Fun for the entire family, or make it a Girls’, Guys’ or Friends’ Weekend!

(I can’t believe how much stuff you get with this race.  So worth the registration cost.  And if you win the free entry, it’s like winning the lottery. Only with sandwiches.)

Sound good?  If you’re not yet convinced, check out my race recaps from last year (where you will find a sandwich picture).

2012 Run for the Dream Race Report

And sadly, only one of you will win.  But!  If you don’t win and want to enter, the race organizers were nice enough to give me a discount code.  BLOG2013 will take $5 off the 8K, $10 off the Half Marathon and $15 off the Patriot’s Challenge. The code is valid for civilian pricing only and expires on May 1st, 2013.

  1. I don’t like to eat too much right after running, so bagel, pb and banana. After that, it’s usually a smoothie and who knows what else. I’m not a major eater afterwards and don’t have massive cravings for burgers french fries or anything like that.

  2. formerly pizza… in accordance with my new diet… grilled chicken and a salad :) but if a Greek restaurant is nearby, you better stay outta my way!

  3. I usually can’t eat right after the race, but I had mac and cheese after Disney and it was delicious.

  4. Favorite post race food… poutine! :D hahahaha But not immediately post race. Immediately after, a banana is usually the best I can handle. And doughnuts.

  5. Something bread . . . had some amazing cinnamon rolls once after a race – they were so delicious!

  6. My favorite post race food is pizza! Had it at a 5k sponsored by a pizza place and now I crave it. Outside of hot cheesy goodness, chocolate milk!!
