June was a month of highs and lows when it comes to training. It was a pretty busy month too.
I finished the month with 32.7 run miles, six swim workouts and five bike workouts.
The Good
- I am a triathlete! I finished my first triathlon this month!
- I had a rough first open water swim, but I finished the month strong by attending an OWS Clinic and already feel better. The work isn’t over yet though!
- I rode the bike course for Iron Girl Columbia and did not die.
- Did you see that triathlete thing up there?
- Didn’t gain weight this month.
- No, seriously. TRIATHLETE.
The Bad
- 32.7 run miles sounds bad enough (my monthly goal is at least 50), and then you realize that 18 of them happened in the first two days of the month during the Run for the Dream Half Weekend.
- Too many missed workouts post-race.
- Weather has been keeping me on my bike trainer.
- Didn’t lose weight this month.
The Ugly
- Zero strength training workouts.
Next Steps
- I have written up a workout plan. Now I must stick to it.
- This plan includes THREE rides on the Iron Girl course.
- I have another OWS clinic (with a different instructor, just for variety) mid-month.
- I MUST get in my 8 mile runs on the weekends
- DietBet ends on July 26th. I need to lose 4.5 more pounds to win.
- I will at least consider strength training
YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE!

Don’t be too hard on yourself! Life happens and gets in the way sometimes. I highly recommend the strength training, though! I am using some triathlon specific workouts that I found in a book called The 12 Week Triathlete by Tom Holland. I already feel stronger and this is only the 6th week. I hear you about the bike trainer… the weather needs to dry up a bit. At least the trainer is good practice for working on keeping the cadence up!

CONGRATULATIONS on the triathlon! That’s AWESOME. I’m super jealous, I’m dying to do one! I struggle with strength training, too…don’t be so hard on yourself! You rock! 😀

You can totally do it too! I just signed up, then panicked, then started training!
