I’m not entirely sure where July went.  I look at my training log and I can’t explain it.  I think because it was a month without any races, it seemed like a slow month.  Just the same old, same old.  Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

In July, I ran 26.6 miles, hit the pool 7 times and rode my bike 8 times, both outside and on the trainer.  And I got in one whole strength training workout! (Okay, so it was 3 days ago, but it still counts.)

The Good

  • I’m getting much more comfortable on the bike.  I’m starting to enjoy the hills.  One more course ride before race day.
  • I did another swim clinic and learned some good tips on dealing with the open water swim stresses.  Again, one more clinic before race day.
  • I’ve sort of got a plan for strength training.
  • For the most part, I stuck to my training schedule, at least when it comes to biking and swimming.

The Bad

  • 26.6 miles?  That’s a really low month for me.  I will still be fine for my triathlon (3.3 mile run), but I’ve got a half marathon in September that I need to be ready for.  I need to stop missing my long weekend runs.
  • I gained half a pound this month.  Why can I not lose weight?

The Ugly

  • We’ll put my house on this list.  It is a mess!

Next Steps

  1. With a few short weeks left until race day, and only one training weekend, I NEED to stick to my training schedule.
  2. Continue to get in at least one strength training workout a week.
  3. Talk to my doctor about my general fatigue levels and if bloodwork doesn’t show anything, ask about seeing an endocrinologist.  Might just be that I’m wearing myself out, but I might as well rule out all medical possibilities first.

  1. If you’re going to see an endocrinologist, let me know and I have some general advice for dealing with them and getting an accurate diagnosis if something, if anything, is wrong. It took me 15 years to get it right, but no need to rehash out everything here.
