This weekend, I did not run. I did not bike. I did not swim. Coach told me to take a rest weekend and that’s exactly what I did.
Unfortunately, my body heard “rest” and immediately decided to get sick. So I’m still working on fighting off whatever this horrible bug is. Perfect timing too, since this is yet another choir concert week. I feel like I just did this.
Either way, having a rest weekend was fairly glorious. I did a ton of laundry and cleaned up the house a bit and then I just felt like I had all this free time, time usually spent prepping for a workout, working out, and then refueling and showering afterwards. It was amazing. Now I understand how non-athletes get so much done on the weekends.
Does this mean I’m giving it up? Not at all. I felt like I had too much time this weekend. I spent a number of hours watching tv and working on a baby blanket gift that I should have started weeks ago. I also slept a lot. Which was enjoyable, but I missed the endorphin rush that comes with a hard workout.
But it’s good to sometimes give your body a rest. Relax. Breathe.
I’ve got a light week this week (and three choir rehearsals and three concerts) and then it’s back to the grind the following week. So I shall be back to my grumbling about hard workouts very soon.
