I had my annual “lady doctor” visit yesterday. No, I didn’t take pictures, and no, I won’t be giving you any intimate details. Some things are left unblogged (take note, bloggers).
I definitely managed to leave her speechless though. As she said “I thought this appointment would be easy.”
I have managed to gain 15 pounds since my last appointment a year ago. I knew this. Weight has been creeping on regardless of what I’m doing. So I’m being sent to an endocrinologist, and they’re recommending I consider following a diabetic-style diet. Essentially, low carb, low sugar. My blood sugar is fine, but it’s just an idea for how I can try to lose. So I’m going to ease my way back into that one. I did South Beach years and years ago and did lose weight on it, but found it hard to sustain that lifestyle. I’m going to try to incorporate as many of the concepts as I can into my life, and once travel settles down, think about officially following the plan for a few months, just to see how that goes. I feel like a good jumpstart would do wonders for my psyche.
I also get to start having mammograms at 35 instead of 40. Still a few years away, but just another fun thing. Definitely not complaining – I’d rather be safe than sorry.
Led to a funny conversation with my Mom though:
Me: Yeah, so the doc says I need to start mammograms at 35 instead of 40.
Her: Oh, because of my cancer diagnosis?
Me: Yeah. No big deal though.
Her: So when did they schedule the appointment for?
Me: (slight pause) Mom, I’m only 32. You should know this.
You’d think she wouldn’t want to add years to my age since that just adds years to hers.
Also doing some medication changes with the doc which could be glorious or terrible, but we will find out soon.
And to all of you ladies who haven’t had an exam in over a year – what are you doing? Get out there! It’s not a big deal. Seriously. Take care of your bodies.
