One of the things that has delighted me so far about the Holidailies entries is that I’m re-finding blogs (or online journals, as they used to be known) that I read years ago and then lost track of. Lovely to see you all again. Happy Holidailies!
Today’s prompt is: What are you most looking forward to this holiday season?
That’s an easy one. Traveling home to see my family. Ever since I moved out of my parents’ house, it just doesn’t feel like the holiday season starts quite as early. You see, my Mom starts putting up holiday decorations as soon as Halloween ends. She needs all that time to get everything up, with the Christmas Village and the 9 trees (I think) and the 3 foot tall Santas and… We joke that it looks like Christmas threw up at the house, but really, it’s just very festive. It’s the sort of decorating that you see in magazines. There is a lot of it, but it’s all very classic. And since it starts early, it feels like the season starts early too.
Of course, the real reason I love the trip is getting to see my family. I have only seen my parents and my sister since last Christmas. That means that I haven’t seen my brother and sister-in-law, my grandparents, my aunts, uncles, cousins and all of those other family members (who aren’t technically part of the family tree but who are definitely family) since last Christmas. A year is a long time to go, but that’s just sort of how things fall out.
This year, I only get about a week at home, but I am definitely looking forward to seeing everyone (including the dogs – it is so nice to get to spend a whole week in a house with dogs). And, of course, I will be doing my best to coerce them all into coming to visit me as well. Yes, even the dogs are welcome to visit, though I’m pretty sure they won’t take me up on the offer.
