I’m probably going to regret this as my half marathons for the spring approach, but I’m really enjoying my transition into triathlon training. It’s so nice to head to a workout and NOT be running. I like running, but I’m really enjoying the variety. And I can tell that I’ve lost fitness in both swimming and cycling by spending so much time running.
Oh, I had plans. Big plans. I was going to still swim and bike once a week.
Swimming got dropped pretty darn fast. Prior to last week, the last time I was at the pool was October.
Cycling? Probably sometime in September. My bike didn’t even make it into the trainer, which means I certainly wasn’t biking through the winter. My sit bones are still protesting when I get on the bike, but it’s getting better with time (though at some point, I do need to upgrade my saddle).
Admittedly, running will get better when I can reliably be outside. I don’t mind the treadmill, but variety is really nice. For me, the perfect way to train is treadmill during the week (trashy tv!) and treadmill on the weekend. It’s a good variety and allows me to do good speedwork inside while still getting outside in the fresh air for long runs.
I’m sure once the variety become routine, I’ll find myself looking for something new again, but for now, I’m loving the change.
(I’m not loving the effect of the cold weather and the pool on my skin, however. Yuck!)
