Ugh. This week did not go as planned. But it was better than nothing.
Monday – OWS practice out at Fort Ritchie. Wasn’t what I wanted (I wanted 1500m, got in 1000), but it was better than nothing and good prep for the weekend.
Tuesday – Hill intervals. I didn’t get this workout done in full. I have to slow way down for hills due to my heartrate issues, which makes the workout seem endless. But I got in 4 half mile intervals plus some running between. This is just going to take strength to get through.
Wednesday – Brick! Hour trainer workout followed by an easy 2 mile run.
Thursday – Team Fight swim. Lots and lots of sprint drills. I’m not great at sprinting, but I’m slowly improving.
Friday – Ahh, rest day. Except that I did something to my foot and it hurt all day.
Saturday – Fort Ritchie Swimfest. I did the 1500m race, which I didn’t treat as a race, but rather a practice swim. I did it in around 40 minutes, which was slower than last year, but
- I did not wear my wetsuit, and
- According to the race director, the entire race was slower, possibly due to currents or shifting buoys.
It was definitely a good practice though, and reminded me of what I need to work on in open water swims. And it’s a reminder that yes, I can complete an OWS without a wetsuit in a reasonable amount of time. I have an hour to do it at Williamsburg, and I will clearly be fine.
I was then supposed to run ten miles, but my foot still hurt, so in the interests of not breaking myself, I decided to let it heal. Spoiler alert, it’s fine now.
Sunday – Princeton Sports ride of the Old Iron Girl course. 17 hilly miles. Faster than last week. I consider it a win.
