The forecast for today called for two to five inches of snow.

FIVE INCHES OF SNOW!

Of course, we never get the max amount of snow forecasted, but I was hopeful.  I wanted a good solid snow.  Something pretty.  Winter snow that sticks around for a while.  Snowmen that take a while to melt.

I woke up today and the government was shutdown in anticipation of the snowfall.  I have a telework agreement, so that meant that I still had to work, but I could do so in sweatpants (a definite win).  So I settled in to work and await the snowfall.

And the snow!  It fell!  So beautiful.

But there weren’t five inches of snow.  Not five, not four, not three, probably not even two.  And by the time the sun was setting, the snow was melting significantly.  Water was dripping from the trees as it melted.  All that is left is patchy snow in the yard.  Definitely not pretty.  It looks like the neighbor kids tried to make a snowman, but it’s just a pile of snow at this point.

Though I guess for all practical purposes, the snow coming and going so quickly is a good thing.  No worries about driving in it.  My car’s relatively clean.  So that’s good.

But it’s Christmas time.  Who wants to be practical?
