I’ve opted to take things very easy and do a lot of stretching over the next few days. I’m starting to think this thing in my back started when I screwed up my shoulder, then walked funny because I was tight, then my hips tightened… Apparently, all these muscles are interconnected. Who knew? But I’ve been doing lots of stretches and foam rolling and spending time with a trigger point ball at work (which gets me funny looks). But I think I’m back on the road to recovery.
What this means is that April has been a total loss in terms of training. I’m hitting the pool tonight, which will be awesome, and then Sunday I’ve got a half marathon to start the month. I’m already planning to hang with some friends at the back of the pack and chat our way through it. I just hope I can keep up with their planned slow pace!
And then it’s back to it – with more stretching.
Lesson here? Stretch, people. Stretch a lot. Crazy stretching. Think you stretch enough? Nope, do more.
Maybe I should bust out that yoga for runners DVD. The last time I tried it, I thought I was going to die. That does not bode well for my core strength.
